[ QUOTE ] I don't understand. It's easier to back out into a big open space than to back into a small tight space. [/ QUOTE ] And it's easier to pull forward into a big open sapce than a small tight space. What's your point? [/ QUOTE ] I was the OP of this comment; my point was that for most people driving forward is easier than driving backwards. So for these people it'd be better to park forward than to park backwards. |

I would have added "all the spots around here are parallel parking" as a third option. Overall, this is a poll regarding a standard situation that many people do - park. Here, about 80% of the people answer one thing. That is probably right at the borderline of being a poll worth posting. Generally, if the top answer has over 75% or so, the poll was quite likely a dumb one. Over 90%, almost always stupid poll. Two things save this one. The fact that it is a common enough situation for tons of people to comment/participate, and the fact that it is a new topic of discussion. So, risky thread I think, but all things considered, a decent one.

If they have difficulty driving backwards I don't want them backing into vehicle or pedestrian traffic. |

But the fact of the matter is most drivers are poorly trained, don't put much thought into driving and don't invest any effort into improving their abilities once they have their DL. |

i'm pretty sure that if i dedicated the next year of my life to driving backwards it wouldn't make backing into a parking space faster than driving into it

Anyone who backs in by default when there is no reason which makes pulling in head first impractical SSCKH. Anyone who does this and causes a delay in surrounding traffic as a result SKH.

[/ QUOTE ] The Dude: [ QUOTE ] Backing in is usually better. Because the front wheels turn, it's actually easier to get into and out of a parking spot if you back in. Also, visibility is better when coming out of the spot, and for crowded events where everybody's leaving at the same time, it's easier to squeeze into traffic if you're heading out instead of backing out. I have an extended cab, full size truck....if the spots are straight in/out and not angled often, backing in is easier. If the spots are angled, I usually just pull in headfirst.

so as I pulled into work today from lunch, I decided to back into a spot, but thats not really my go to play, usually its front first, but I know some people that are always backing in, whats your standard line. [/ QUOTE ] This is the dulletst, most boring topic/thread in the history of the internet. |
