I went to Oberlin for a year and I can tell you that you basically hit the nail on the head...

Actually, you and he missed the nail's head by a friggin mile. Berkeley is a diverse campus and college community, in which there are just as many conservative leaning students as there are liberals. You take from it what you want.

Well finally someone hit the nail on the head. Even a school with a reputation like Berkley has a pretty even mix of conservative and liberal students (from my limited experience of visiting a friend there for a few weeks), it's just that some of the liberal students are more outspoken and sponsor more activist groups. I know that that's the case at my school for sure, and I also know as many friends who have flipped from conservative to liberal and vice versa as those who have stayed the path of their ideology. A certain college or a certain professor won't necessarily "turn" a student one way or the other, it's the person themselves usually.

Maybe I saw a different interview, or maybe I'm just not reading into this enough, but it seems like all the guy said was,

"There's war going on. I'm not going to get too upset about losing a poker tournament."

I don't see how that can be construed as a liberal or conservative. The first sentence is a fact. The second is a personal opinion about his own life. He at no point makes any judgment of what's going on or tells anyone else what to do.

Wow. Incredibly humble.

If I was him, I'd be crying like a baby. Nice composure, very respectable.

People who are upset over Prahlad's comments need to get their head checked. Do you prefer Thorsson's exit speech where he sounded like he wanted to kill himself after playing cards for a few days and winning 900k+? No thanks, I'll root for Mahatma who clearly has his head in the right place. Enjoy life and quit being so uptight.

While I agree that his perpective is refreshing, you have to admit his comments were straight out of left field. I laughed because it was such an unexpected response. Its like if you asked a coworker this morning how their day is going and they gave the same response.

i never hear anybody voice any views that aren't, Bush sucks... Conservatives are morons.. Then again I live in NYC... Btw, I'm against the Iraq war myself, but c'mon there's a time and place. It reminds me of all the a-hole actors at award shows subtly bashing Bush and conservatives, it just gets annoying. STFU I don't need to hear P. Friedman or George Clooney's opinion on world politics. jeezy creezy!
