Thx,you're probably right, taking it down right there would be good and I could still get 3-bet or called by the maniac with a worse hand.
Nobody has answered my original question though! I guess its an easy bet then. |

And I think I still like a flop raise in order to get it HU, and taking it down on the flop is beautiful since the pot is a good size. |

Here is where I learnt something about poker by reading The Psychology of Poker. Calling stations aren't playing poker for the same reason you and I are. For many calling stations poker is a polite pastime where the best cards win. You pay to see as many cards as possible because its joyful to have a winning lottery ticket. They derive joy from the social element of play and winning and losing are the price for that entertainment. So embrace that and use it. Compliment calling stations when they hit their lottery ticket. Show sympathy and understanding and in short do everything you can to make them continue to call away looking for their keno numbers to hit. If that means occasionally making a play where you don't maximize the bet, do it. Now this goes against the book of right or wrong play and many aren't going to be happy and agree with me here. And as it happens in this case with mister maniac in on your hand I don't think the bet on the river was wrong anyways. The point is be aware of why your opponents play the way they do and SOMETIMES do things out of line to keep them playing the way they are....namely predictable. |

Is this a good river bet? BB is a calling station 49/3.6/.4 and MP2 is maniac 53/32/1.22. I only ask because the calling station berated me for doing it. [/ QUOTE ] Don't worry about what players that have a VPIP of 50 are saying. They rarely know what they're talking about. I think the river is a clear bet when maniac checks to you. Also, your maniac is aggressive preflop, but pretty passive post flop (don't know how many hands you have on the guy) so don't just think he's always jamming with nothing. It looks like he's calling a lot for a maniac. |

No, he's still pretty aggressive postflop. It's more difficult to keep an aggression factor high when you are playing like that preflop. That is still pretty high for someone playing half of the hands dealt to him (and raising the majority of those).

I bet this river as well. The fact that MP2 checked tells me he was scared that is AQ, AJ, AT, JJ, TT, was going to get raised on the river.
Close your chat box and don't listen to anything a calling station has to say. |

If Maniac 3-bets you, do you fold? Or call down?

I would raise the flop once more before slowing down. Because your villains are so loose, I think this is a good value bet situation. I assume BB is the type that would call down any pair. |

If Maniac 3-bets you, do you fold? Or call down? [/ QUOTE ] Call down. Maniacs 3-bet air, middle pocket pairs, AXs, and of course a K in the hole. I think I'm ahead a majority of the time though. After seeing the responses, I wish I raised the flop! |
