[ QUOTE ] Can you deduct cash game losses against tourney winnings? If that is the case, Hellmuth would never have to pay taxes!! (Assuming no other income which of course is not true) [/ QUOTE ] Yes, but when I declared large losses 5 years in a row they declared it was a hobby and not a business, disallowing my deductions. I did 3-5 in a fed pen. NCAces [/ QUOTE ] Congrats on getting out, dude. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Good Lord - just got back and saw the chip updates. Is this going to be one boring final table or what? I'm looking ofrward to seeing Alan in action, but that monster stack - yikes [/ QUOTE ] Meh, compared to last year I'd say this is an amazing FT. When there were like 12 left we had Matusow, Andrew Black in Jamie Gold's role as character with massive chipstack, and brad kondracki as the 2p2er (though many did not know Kondracki was a trout). Everyone else was like meh. Nobody had even heard of Hachem, and Dannenman only got some coverage because of his donk card protector. As it got down to 3 and 4 handed, thats when the focus started shifting to them. [/ QUOTE ] No Dannenman got attention before ESPN and way before the final four. Along with the card protector he had: - His "Isn't this great" attitude. - The list. - The story that he was only the 4th best at his home game. - His home game friend backing him 50% - And the big one, that didn't make ESPN, was that Dannenman got short stacked at one point, started ordering cocktails midday, and quickly proceeded to go on a massive tear. He'd win a big hand, yell out "cocktails", order up another one, and his whole table was on tilt. All this made Cardplayer, this board, and numerous newspaper articles (he was essentially the everyman cover boy for local print coverage) before he was on ESPN or the final table. [/ QUOTE ] You are being results oriented ... none of that made it anywhere until ESPN televised it, IIRC. They may have caught the same type of things this year, although if you think about it, how lucky was it for them to catch Steve D on the phone with his backer bragging about taking a hand off the Professor. In a field of 6800, what's the chance of that person going to the FT and finishing 2nd. But, they will have all sorts of these types of stories. That is what their folks get paid for. NCAces [/ QUOTE ] I would also add that when I say it was later, I agree it was before there were 4 left, but certainly wasn't until there were only a few tables left. I am guessing that they will have all sorts of anecdotes from the 27 players that played today. There are a ton of angles: -Well known Internet players killing it (as oppossed to the $33 satelitte Internet newbie) -Got at least two rich guys, one of whom was going to give the 12M to charity - Got a Hollywood agent type who was mentored by Johnny [CareBear] Chan, and whose clients include stars of the Sopranos, Desperate Housewives, etc. - A top pro ... Cunningham is the best pro to make it this far since Action Dan? I don't count Mike M (although he certainly provided flavor) - Another name Lissandro who went deep - The monster [CareBear] lead can play two ways ... he keeps pushing people around, or he goes down in flames. Either way, good stories will be made. - There appears to be a Duke U angle with a couple Duke grads making deep - Of the 27 characters, there will be plenty for them to cover, and an extra day to do it all without having to move to Binions. - On and on. |

[ QUOTE ]
All, Looks like Mike B (turnipmonster and bdk's buddy and a guy who a bunch of us in the Bay Area have played against) lost a big pot (prob to Goldberg) that wasn't reported in the update. Binger has been swinging up and down a fair amount the last couple of days and very few of his hands have been reported. Today he has been in the top few almost all day until now, with 2.7M he is 11/12. [/ QUOTE ] Here's the hand from the Vorhaus blog: [ QUOTE ] Wasicka with a Bite for Dinner Posted: 2006-08-08 22:28:45 Paul Wasicka just took a nice bite out of Michael Binger's chip stack before heading off to dinner. After calling big bets from Binger on both the turn and the river, Wasicka flipped over an ace high to go with two pair, queens and tens, on the board. He was hoping to catch Binger on a steal, and succeeded when Binger flipped over his pocket eights that didn't play. With that pot of about 4.5 million chips, Wasicka becomes one of the chip leaders at his table, while Binger will be in some serious trouble when we get back. The players will be on break for the next hour and a half, and hopefully the grub will give them some new energy, because play has become positively lethargic as of late. Flops have become an endangered species around these parts, with everyone jockeying for position in order to ensure a spot at the final table. Stick around. [/ QUOTE ] |

Seems like he has bit pretty hard with deck. Every time someone goes all-in he flips over AK or KK.

There are a ton of angles: -Well known Internet players killing it (as opposed to the $33 satelitte Internet newbie) [/ QUOTE ] I really hope they do cover this angle and give respect to the internet powerhouses who have gone deep and are just as technically proficient as the name players. However I'm guessing they probably won't, and when young millionaires like Mahatma and the Swedes are busting the commentary will be all "WOWOWOW WHATS A YOUNG KID LIKE THAT GONNA DO WITH A LIFE CHANGING 500K" etc ;[ |
