Dom:

Unless the voices in my heard are playing it back wrong, the intro to "Just What I Needed" is played on a guitar, with the bass coming in right before the vocals start.

Some favorites I haven't seen mentioned:

- Pink Floyd : "Hey You"
- Dire Straits : "Once Upon A Time In The West" (live, off of Alchemy)
- Eagles : "Victim Of Love"

[/ QUOTE ]

the pulsing "duh duh duh" part is base, the blasting "DAH" is guitar...although there may be a guitar layered into the pulsing part, too.

Where the Streets have no name, U2.
Great Build up, musical intro goes for a bit over a minute on the album version. Not a second wasted.

Even better live.

AC/DC Hells Bells is a'ight too.

I wonder if Metallica thieved a little from Hells Bells on For Whom the Bell Tolls cause they sound an awful lot alike at the beginning. Once the bells stop Metallica's is a lot better though.

I don't know if it's the "best," but I like the intro to Helmet's "Unsung" a lot.

LOL...this is exactly the opposite of what I hear.

I hear eighth notes (duh duh) on a guitar and then an accented quarter (DAH) "on the 4s" with guitar chord + bass + drums for like 4 bars, then eighth notes on a guitar and accented eighth notes on the (DAH DAH) "4 and" with guitar chord + bass + drums for 4 more bars.

Then the bass starts playing the eighth notes under the vocals. Am I nuts here?

Where are the guitarists?!?! Or is this song too old for all the kids on this messageboard?

you could be right...the first notes are just low and pulsing...like a bass! But it certainly could be a guitar...
