10/20 online 4 handed. BB is a calling station
Folded to me in SB, I raise 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. BB calls. Flop: K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img](h/u, 4SBs) I bet, BB calls. Turn: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I bet, BB calls. River: J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I check with the intention of folding to a bet. And for an added bonus question: Would you raise 65 in this spot preflop if it wasn't suited? |

Is this the type of calling station who peels flops but gives up on turns? Does he ever give up on the river?
I bet the turn with the double gutter, thinking that maybe even a 5 or 6 on the river may be good enough, depending on how much of a calling station he is. I might fire on the river if he is the type to fold rivers. Most of the time I check fold it, though. |

Don't raise this pre-flop against a calling station, limp it.

The river check is bad. Players like this take a great many unshowable hands to the river in hopes of pairing them up. Even though his river calling standards might be a lot looser than yours, he makes up for it by not having cut his hand range down on the flop and turn. It is very rare to see an online player who calls the river more than 70% of the time overall.
Since you cannot beat anything, pot odds of 5-1 are simply too good to pass up in this situation. You are hoping to fold hands like T7 and Q3. It's also very good advertising as getting caught will reinforce Villain's incorrect calling. That's good since you are going to be playing a lot of hands against him because he is very loose and sitting next to you. Preflop I tend to agree with those who would have completed. But it isn't a big deal as raising also has its good points. |

Why you raise 6 hi against a calling station preflop?
Why you bet 6 hi against a calling station on the flop? Why you bet 6 hi against a calling station on the turn? Why dont you bet the only street calling stations may fold? |

Personally, I wouldn't raise the 65s PF here... I would limp it going in; (and probably would even consider folding it being the tight nit that I am )...
However, how I played the flop (and beyond) would depend on whether or not I think the calling station is capable of folding the river. If he is capable of folding the river, I would check call the flop, then check raise the double gutshot on the turn. If I hit my draw on the river, I bet out. If I don't hit my draw on the river, I bet out. This is based on my limping preflop though. If I felt that he would call down the river more often than not in this spot, I would bet the flop, check call the turn (he is likely to give you a free turn card anyway), and then check/fold the busted draw on the river. Anyway, based on how you played it, I personally don't think a bet on this river would work even as little as 20% of the time. In this hand, you raised PF, bet the King high flop, bet the turn... and this calling station has calmly called each bet. The only hand we beat here is another busted draw, since the caller is likely to call with any bottom pair type combination that he may have. I simply don't think the calling station, in this hand, is aware enough of the board to be able to fold... |
