Hawklet-

What site do you have money on? I can cover your buy in on stars if you have money you can send me on iPoker or FTP.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't have problems moving money, I was just saying that that could be a reason. I'm only interested in the free league because I know almost nothing about fantasy football.

I'm ok with the suggestion. Anyone else?

The balance yahoo suggests is 2.5:1 value of rush/receive to pass. We use 2:1 in the most popular league that I run. You're suggesting 3:1. We might want to go every 25 passing yards: 1 as a comprise value in between

You're making a touchdown worth 60 yards rushing/receiving. that sounds like an acceptable balance. Their default of 120 yards = TD is definately too high.

I like 30, 10, 10 or 25, 10, 10 much better than 50, 20, 20 for the reasons already listed.

I'm also in for $100 if there's room.

Edit: Morphling, I'd do a $200-500 range instead if there's enough interest.

Let's go w/ 25-10-10. That's the default on ESPN, Fox, CBS, and I think Yahoo as well.

Okay, since we're gonna be gay and not join my group, I'l probably be in for whatever the min deposit onto stars is.

But before that, I need to understand a few things:

1. How is the roster picked?
2. Are there trades?
3. How is the winner decided (total points or most weeks won etc)?
4. What is the luck factor? Do I stand any chance?

25-10-10 it is.

Hawk, you could certainly pay by paypal or neteller or whatever, wouldn't have to be stars.

Rosters are picked in a live draft. Yahoo will have a default ranking of the players by their ranked value (according to them) and you can autopick from that list or you can manually draft. Draft order is randomly assigned. Its always a snake draft (if you pick first in the first round, you pick last in the second round) so it all tends to balance out well.

there are trades. We can institute a trade committee to review trades if people are worried about any sort of dumping of players. I'd say we'd use the opposite league to review any protested trades: so high stakes would review low stakes and vice versa. simple majority yes from the owners would be good enough to approve a protested trade

you play head to head each week with another owner. you win your game if your starting team outscores your opponent. At the end of the season, the top four teams in win-loss go in to the superbowl bracket: 1st plays 4th, 2nd plays 3rd, then the winners and losers play each other to determine who finishes 1st - 4th. The next four (5th-8th) go in to the toilet bowl bracket for pride only (maybe a small prize if I can find sponsors, or if we want to hold some money back for them).

There's quite a significant luck factor, because its really hard to predict who is going to have a good year. There's certainly some skill in drafting (especially in knowing who you think is going to have a good year and who isn't) and there's some skill to picking your starters each week (i.e. not start your running back going against the top rush defense). I'd say the draft is about 50% skill and 50% luck, the regular season is aboutthe same, maybe even more slanted to luck. Mostly its just a lot of fun as you end up watching a ton of football you might not otherwise watch and cheering for random performances.

If you go to the help pages on yahoo that I linked in the OP (on the rules then click through the rest of them) it explains a lot. Its really easy to figure out and we can certainly help you along.

I'd go with stars over anything else as its just taking out of my bankroll and its the easiest to do.

Explain the whole "playoffs" thing. I see it used but I dont understand what it's refering to or what it means/causes.

EDIT: Oh is it like this: top 4 teams play a 2 round tournament. The next two weeks decide who wins. So the goal is to be in the top 4 basically, right?

Ok, barring any bankroll problems, I should be down for the 50 dollar league. When is this gonna commence?

Hawk: correct. top four enter the "playoffs". In week 15, 1st place (in terms of win-loss record from the regular season) would play 4th place, 2nd place would play 3rd. The winners of the first round play each other in week 16. The person who goes 2-0 in the post season takes first. The person who won the first game and lost the second finishes second. The person who lost the first game but wins the second takes third. The person who loses both week 15 + 16 games bubbles in our suggested format.

As far as timeline: I'd like to have the draft around the end of the month. At least sometime in the window of August 21st - September 3rd. First NFL game is September 7th so technically anytime before then is OK.

I'd like to keep signups open for at least another full week. maybe close signups on 7-14 and then schedule the draft for sometime in the following two weeks....

All: we've got a push starting for a $200 league. Four of us interested there so far. If any of the other $100'ers are interested in upping to $200 let me know. Looks like we might have a $200, a $100, and then hopefully a lower stakes / free one if we can fill that up in the next week.

Be careful if you make passing td's worth the same as rushing/recieving, it lets QB's dominate too much. Also the only problem with playoffs is most of the good players dont play week 17 so you should make it so its over week 16.

Damn! My winning strategy up in smokes. My team of second string players would have dominated the playoffs!
