What stigma? I tell people I play poker all the time and get nothing but positive feedback (but of course I tell them in an excited/positive way without hesitation or reservation).

[/ QUOTE ]

What is the correct response when the alcoholic, British, obvious loser estranged husband of my alcoholic, complete and total dingbat next door neighbor implies that I should get a real job?

[/ QUOTE ]

"meh"

I was really expecting something extremely clever tying in the British, alcholic and estrangedness.

Yugo,

What game(s), other than poker, should I spend most of my time in Vegas playing in the future?

I took a big test in June and don't get results for another couple weeks. Did I pass?

Not counting this, have you ever read one of my posts?

How do I get over blowing $1,500 at the WSOP last week?

This one is coming from a non-native english speaker.

Why do you guys say "scrippa" when you mean "stripper"?

[/ QUOTE ]
It's ebonics. I'm from Oakland - the only place I know of that tried to legitimately teach ebonics as a class in the public school system.

[/ QUOTE ]

Now I have to go and look up "ebonics" on wikipedia.

kevkev,

I'm no Yugo, but I'd recommend mini baccarat the next time you're in Vegas. Also, I have a small sample size, but I'm fairly certain that being ridiculously drunk increases your EV at this game. I will try to find out for sure the next time I'm there.

Good suggestions; I've done the Walker/sculpture gardens with someone else, but perhaps I'll go with this one too, especially since it's been more than a year since I've gone. I've not been to Joe's garage...if you say it's good, i'll give it a whirl. At least I'll know whether we have similar taste for future suggestions .

Perhaps a trip report to follow.

I just went a few weeks ago, they totally redid it fairly recently (a few months ago? not sure, I've been at school)

there's a pretty cool b/w photography exhibit (can't remember her name right now) if you're into that sort of stuff. Also the sculpture garden is pretty sweet.

wiggs,
I'll try mini baccarat next trip. Last trip I tried that Texas Hold Em Bonus game. Which ended poorly. Made it all back and then some at pai gow poker, though. MyTurn2Raise was at my table and told everyone at Barbary Coast that he was quitting poker to play professional pai gow.

Yugo,

Will the stigma of calling ourselves poker players in public ever go away or will we just have to live with this forever?

Is there any chance that we will ever gain the acceptance that golf has?

Umm....dude, as far as I'm concerned saying I play poker >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;> than saying I play golf.

[ QUOTE ]
I was debating with my daughter the other day that the "hee" in a donkey's "hee-haw" is actually the inhale, in preparation for the "haw".

"heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee {a visual of a donkey filling his lungs here would help) - hawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww"

If you notice, there really isn't a pause between subsequent outbursts - where one might expect he/she is filling their lungs for the next. It's really not logical to believe that both expenditures would be made in a single breath.

It would stand to reason then, that depending on the current amount of air in a donkey's lungs at the precise moment that they instinctively felt the need to become vocal - the exhale may preceed the next inhale. In an urgent matter, this initial outburst, with whatever the current capability, makes much more sense than for him to first take the time to take a full breath.

So - I propose to you that the familiar donkey call is actually "haw-hee", not "hee-haw".

Any thoughts?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I don't know why I ever backed you....I mean how could you possibly focus enough on your STTs with nonsense such as this running through your head, .

Umm....as far as your idea generally I'm not sure I've ever heard a donkey go "hee-haw" or "haw-hee" or if I have I probably completely ignored it and elected to look at hot batches nearby. But the correct answer is that you should likely call it whatever your daughter(s) do not want you to call it. All the awesomely cool dads do that kind of stuff!
