Phil seems to be the nicest pro away from the table.

Fans boo A-Rod and Bonds when they step to the plate in away parks too.
Part of it is envy, and part of it is having a public persona that is less than endearing. Steroids, greed, infantile brattiness. It's an excuse to dislike the person. To the OP - in the context of the game itself, and the competition of the WSOP, in the manner that Hellmuth treats his fellow competitors, do you think he's somehow earned their respect? I wouldn't care if his arms were mummified with bracelets, personally. |

[ QUOTE ]
Well, he just doesn't work on getting better about berating opponents because he thinks it makes him even MORE visible and marketable, but I think he has likely hit a mass density of recognition he can get from being an ass, and to an extent has realized it, and really tries hard to be better but now can't help it [/ QUOTE ] Listen to the interview with Mark Kroon on the archived podcasts at Bluffmagazine.com. He says he played with Hellmuth growing up, and Phil really hasn't changed since the old days. I doubt he berates players to push an image. I think it is just his style, or lack thereof. I agree, he tries, but fails to change his behavior. Almost to an uncomfortable level, because it seems so insincere (whether or not it is). |

I'm sure that Phil was very deeply offended by this. So offended that he went home and took a nap on a huge pile of cash.

That's horrible! I can't see why Hellmuth isn't treated with as much respect as Brunson.

Hellmuth invites the disrespect deliberately with the image he cultivates. I'm sure he understands that.
