[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, Harold Reynolds also was advocating a trade. [/ QUOTE ] to be fair, Reynolds was advocating a trade from A-Rod's point of view - not the Yankees. it's an interesting point when you remove yourself from the emotions of it all (which yankee fan would have trouble doing.) obviously it would be bad for the Yankees to trade him, because you couldn't get equal value...but do all of you think it's a horrible suggestion from A-Rod's point of view? he's one of the best players in the game - without question - and he's booed every. [censored]. day. i hate the Yanks, and even i have had a tough time watching what's happened to this guy. standard Yankee fan never ceases to amaze me though - they've been so spoiled with the dynasty's and the recent spending that they're relentless on a sure fire hall of famer. |

Jeter was booed for a little while once but then he got a big hit and never again.
Rivera was booed last year after blowing a couple saves to the Red Sox. I don't think A-Rod can seriously play SS anymore. It's been three years and he's put on some bulk. For better or worse he's a 3B now. Maybe he could make a fine OF. |

[ QUOTE ] but this year he is actually playing terribly. His OPS is [...] .878 [/ QUOTE ] Funny definition of "playing terribly." Yeah,he's had some fielding problems but jesus, the guy's got a .307 EqA. [/ QUOTE ] Obivously its all relative and if any other 3b has this kind of season it would be an excellent one. I only used the world terrible in that context to say that last year arod was criticized while putting up a freaking amazing season, this year he is being criticized for putting up a relatively poor one. I also used the word terrible because as a Yankee fan I'm pissed at how much worse he is playing this year than last year (I know that is an unrealistic benchmark, but it is understandably pretty hard to convince a yankee fan not to be unhappy with how hes played this year), he has had an OPS of 1.0+ five times in his career and is .958 in his career, it's hard for a fan not to be annoyed by him declining so much especially giving his recent butchery in the field. A lot more Yankee fans would be saying "whatever, he is the reigning MVP, he will work it out fine" if they were in first place. Instead they are watching Sidney Ponson and Jared Wright go out and tank it in the 2nd inning, it's pretty aggravating, and Arod is the first target that pops up so they hit him to pieces. I agree with KB4Z, if he came out and gave a genuine, honest, and maybe even angry reply I would respect him a lot more than the premeditated fluff he gives every game, which he obviously does not feel. edit- I also wish that Jeter or Posada would come out and say "look, stop booing him and giving him such a hard team, we are teammates and are all playing hard together, he's the MVP and everyone knows hes going to turn it around". The NY fans and media are not exactly creating a productive environment. If you were a poker player going through a downswing and observers started booing you and criticizing you, rather than saying "this stuff happens over the course of a career, just keep getting it in +EV situations, you will turn it around" , it would be a huge distraction and hurt your play. I have a feeling that eventually arod will overcome this and win a ring or two with the yankees, and after he retires he will be criticized for only winning once or twice. I can just see that happening so well. |

I think people who are down on A-Rod feel like even when he had great numbers he isn't everyone's favorite word, "clutch".
I don't have access to BP's WinEx stuff, but do you have any comments on WPA as seen here? Considering his RBI numbers, it seems like you could only have a WPA that low by having gotten those RBI at relatively meaningless times. While Arod can't control the context of his AB's, it seems unlikely that his situations have been that different from Jeter or Giambi's. edit: trading him would probably be insane, but there are a lot of terrible GM's in baseball, so never say never. |

Guys, have any of you ever been Big League hitters? Let alone a professional SS who had to switch to 3B? I didn't think so. So how about we don't judge people unless we actually have some experience. These guys at BBT used to play, I think they know what they're talking about.
PHB - See how stupid that sounded? |

It would be so awesome if Arod just came out and told all the media to Go [censored] Themselves. lol. [/ QUOTE ] My respect for him as a person would go up about 200%. Of course Steinbrenner would put him in a hole in the desert after season-ticket sales plummet. I want to see A-Rod and Tony Pena traded to the White Sox for Crede, Ozzie Guillen, and Joey Cora.
