Bob,

Nothing affects administration as much as angry parents. If your rapport with the students is as strong as mine is with mine, start calling parents and telling them the situation. Say that you don't have many options but would love for them to come down to the principles office and tell him what they think about you.

It shouldn't take many parents for your clout to increase significantly. Also, when on the phone with parents you should be able to feel them out. If you can find a particularly militant one (Shouldn't be hard since they are AP parents) who is willing to help fight your cause (perhaps a younger sibling still in school) explain the pregnancy comparison and get them to threaten the principle to go to the school board to expose the unfair class distribution.

[ QUOTE ]
in the last 9 days, I have left the principal 2 voicemails asking for him to return my call, as i would like to schedule a meeting with him and TAP. i have yet to be called back. how many messages do i leave before i go over his head and call the superintendent?

[/ QUOTE ]

My principal didn't read e-mails. Your best bet was to go to his secretary to get on his schedule or just stalk him out. Stalking may sound stupid but catching him as he's walking in and saying, "Hey, I really could use a couple minutes of your time. Can we meet right now really quick." will usually win a meeting. Assuming you smalltalk for 15 seconds first.

Education really sucks for returning peoples calls/having people do things they don't have to.

-sent an email to the superintendent requesting a meeting to discuss my concerns about the circumstances surrouding my return from my leave of absense.

FWIW central office is completely driven by parents. MY CO would listen to you but not really give a [censored]. It's not really in their job description to make sure teachers get a fair shot in scheduling practices. It probably should be part of principal oversight but I don't think it really is.

Take some parents with you at the very least. Some kids who scored 5s have to have parents will to come to your aid.

Default infuriating email response

i sent this email to the principal this weekend.

[ QUOTE ]
Mr.XXXXX,

I have left several messages requesting a meeting with you and Mrs. XXXXX and have gotten no response. At this point my only recourse is to request a meeting with Dr. XXXXX, which I have done.

Sincerely,

PokerBob

[/ QUOTE ]

he sent this one back this morning.

Bob, We have been out of the office for a good deal of the time for the last month and are now back at it. If you’d like to set up a meeting with either one of us or both of us, we’d be happy to do so. XXXXX

[/ QUOTE ]

I left messages when he was there. even if he was gone HE IS BACK NOW and still never called. i don't know what i find more irritating, the fact that he never returned my call or the fact that he expected me to buy this BS excuse.

[/ QUOTE ]

Polite resignation. No benefit to the other one, small chance of big problems later on.

Do you really want to teach the schedule they gave you this year? Why not just take leave for another year and make sure to find another job?

Email back with, "I am meeting with Dr. Blah Blah on xxx date. Please call me at [Bob's cell] to arrange a meeting if you would like to meet beforehand." Make him call you. If he doesn't, it's an easy thing to drop in your conversation with Dr. Blah Blah. "Oddly, I tried to meet with the principal but he never called me back..."

It at least shows that they're freaking out (at least enough to start spewing bs) in the face of you going to the SI. That's nice. Keep the meeting with the SI, mention this reponse and that you know it's BS. Even if you don't want to keep working there, the SI needs to know that he's got [censored] ups making decisions that aren't in the best interests of his kids.

likely too late to get a leave approved by the board.
