You should post the "go [censored] yourself" version.

[/ QUOTE ]

i am sure it is not as scathing as you would want (no profanity), but it makes my position very clear and will be insulting to a few without actually naming them.

[/ QUOTE ]

That doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good read. OOT could even give you ideas about what to add to it.

a word of advice, just use the professional version. U don't want to get a bad recommendation if you need a reference. Anytime I have quit a job, I always end with a lot of praise.

I say:
"I had a great time working under you. It was a fantastic opportunity and I have learned alot."

This doesn't apply to u, but I would suggest something like

"I enjoyed working at Middleton school very much. You have a wonderful school and I wish you guys all the best. I have decided to explore other options and try something new with my career."

A little bit of kindness costs you nothing

Bob,

This sucks, but I think you're making the right choice.

-principal has never returned my calls requesting a meeting with him and assistant principal. just sent him an email telling him that since he has chosen to ignore my requests for a meeting, i have no other option but to set up a meeting with the superintendent.

-sent an email to the superintendent requesting a meeting to discuss my concerns about the circumstances surrouding my return from my leave of absense.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am a bit confused...what are you expecting the superintendant to do? If s/he overrides the principal, you are not going to like working there, because of bad vibes, or worse. it may even sabotage your opportunities for a new district. It is amazing what people can twist out of things when they are looking for dirt.

My suggestion for the discussion with the superintendant would be strictly along the lines of regret at having to leave the district, and sorrow that there just isn't room for two or three upper division teachers. Ask for a suggestion for another location and also ask for a recommendation if you have any relationship with the superintendent. Also, let them know that you would like to be notified if there is a need for an ap physics instructor next year.

I wouldn't get into any politics or frustration. The only thing would be to suggest they put a policy in place for teachers returning from sabbatical. Perhaps mention your desire to develop another top notch physics program and fulfill your desire to spread your methods and learn from others? Keep it all positive, and let the TAP and principal sweat what you might have said?

IMO, just be glad that you will be in great demand with your skills and hopefully make a difference in the lives of many kids who will benefit from your instruction.

Would this result in losing your teaching certificate? If not, I'd have to say that your play is to phone it in for the semester/year/whatever your contract locks you in for, then send the "go [censored] yourself" resignation letter the moment classes are dismissed on the last school day of the year.

i am well aware that the super is likely not going to override anything. but he is the face of the district and needs to know what is going on here, and i am quite confident that he is totally in the dark. i will make it very clear to him that i do not want to leave, but given the way (a) the schedule has turned out and (b) the way i have been ignored by the administration, i feel no loyalty to the district and have no choice but to explore opportunites elsewhere.

assuming i go back, i will be (a) working for an administration that gave no consideration to my preferences when it came to scheduling and (b) working with two colleagues who were unwilling to compromise in the least and clearly were out to protect their own interests. these "bad vibes" you speak of already exist, and they were not created by me.

a reference from this administration is moot, as they were both hired while i was on leave. they have never had me work under them, thus they are not in a position to say anything about me, good or bad. i agree that one shouldn't burn bridges, but in this case there is no bridge to burn. besides, i have the 2 previous principals who will give me glowing references, so the new folks can [censored] off.

the "go [censored] yourself version" will read something like this:

Based on the scheduling decisions made by the administration and my colleagues in science department, it is clear that my talents are no longer needed or wanted. I have greatly enjoyed my time here, but in my opinion the current schedule does not best serve the students of the school and i cannot in good conscience support it. Thus it is with regret that i resign my postion. go [censored] yourself very much.

love, pokerbob
