Villain in this is lakeontario. He's been totally spazzing out 3handed, 3betting Q7s from the SB, etc. I didn't use this line very often (or very well) prior to watching the stox library of LHE wisdom. DId I get it right here? Is calling down the better play?

I like it a lot. It's actually a sort of 2-way bet, as it could be a bluff that may get him to fold a better hand (44-66, etc.) or a value bet against unpaired overcards.
I say this assuming that this is the last bet you will put into the pot, barring spiking a 3 on the river. - Jeff |

I play this hand the same. As far as the free showdown raise, I believe this is a perfect spot for it. The pot is of a decent size and you would prefer that your opponent folds overcards. Your hand is vulnerable as well and the key is that you can safely fold if you are three bet here. Also, you would most likely play a King this way, so your giving away no information to your opponent. You should have the best hand against this opponent often enough and you might even fold out a better hand (small pair) by raising.

depends. how is he playing post flop? If he spazzes out post flop as well I think it sucks. But he has to be pretty aggresive post flop as well for it to be correct, because that flop is a pretty ugly flop for him if he missed once you call. Is he always gunna auto bet the turn with nothing? And will he fold a better hand (3 handed most people wont).

For this to be better than just calling there has to be almost no chance of him 3-betting the turn or donking the river with a worse hand and, some chance he will fold a better hand, a fairly low chance of him firing a third barrel on the river, or some sufficient combination of those factors.

Do you think you have the best hand or are you trying to make a better hand fold?

Did you find the stox videos worthwhile? Have they helped your game? Are they worth the money?

I don't think you should ever do a free showdown raise vs a guy who's spazzing out

Do you think you have the best hand or are you trying to make a better hand fold? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I probably shouldn't have made this play against this guy. I thought I had the best hand but the raise accomplishes little except maybe causing him to fold a weird junky 6 outer. The fact that he's probably willing to 3bet with air sometimes makes this -EV I think, and not worth the effort. Although I will probably feel stupid after calling twice when he shows down split kings, it's probably the best way to spend 2 bets against this opponent. |
