[ QUOTE ]
I also don't see the why the Cubs shouldn't keep Walker. He puts up a .350 OBP every year, which is the Cubs main problem and he's pretty cheap. [/ QUOTE ] He's 33. He's not the biggest hole in the lineup, but I'd be leary of signing him to anything but a 1 year deal. Might as well cut bait and get a prospect for him. Murton and Cedeno are 24 and 23 respectively. Anyone who thinks the Cubs should "get rid" of either of them lacks a fundamental understanding of player progression. Obviously Murton's lack of power and Cedeno's lack of plate discipline is a concern, but these guys have at least another 3-4 years of improvement in front of them. That doesn't mean you slot them in as your starters for the next few years, but you certainly hold on to them. Ramirez, as someone pointed out, had two straight years of plus .900 OPS and he's 28. I'll keep him, thanks. I hated the Jacque Jones signing then, and I think he should be traded now while his value is higher. His bat will do nothing but slow. Dusty's "everyman" is batting .258/.272/.365. There are literally dozens of minor leaguers who would be better than Nay-fee. The Cubs are literally (1) the only team in the majors who would even sign Perez but also (2) the only team with a manager who would trot him out there IN THE TWO SPOT on an almost daily basis. The bottom line is the offense is deeply flawed in terms of OBP and Slugging, and you'll have to blow much of it up (players, manager, GM) to fix the problem. |
