It is a full table. Everyone calls. I had A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
The flop came A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I checked, so did every one. The river came a 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], one guy potted it, I just flat called. The river came another eight, this guy potted again, what should I do? You might guess that that guy held 88, and caught quad 8 in the river. My question is whether I should slow play from the beginning? Or I should have reraised in the turn, but I believed that guy wouldn't pass either. So the only way I can escape is that I didn't slow play from the very beginning? Any opinion? |

No reason to slowplay. Escalate the pot quickly to commit whoever may be holding the case A. Also there could be as many as ten outs against your hand, not counting the 989-1 shot.

Thank you for the reply. Since my positin was in the SB and the table is a loose one, so I was expecting check-raise, but unfortunately, no one bet here.

I don't mind the flop check. You're way ahead and there are draws out there. With an undercard to the 9 on the turn you can proceed.
I'd have to re-pot the turn. He's got something. Make him pay (for what turns out to be a 1-outer). As for the river...poker is a stupid, stupid game. The only way you'd win this hand is to bet the flop. But in the long run, I think that's not the way to go. |

I don't mind the flop check, but I think you really have to make people pay on the turn. As another poster mentioned, any one with an A and K-T combo has plenty of opportunity to knock you out of thise. The 8888 is annoying, but even more annoying if he didn't pay a LOT for it.

Im a newbie but since your other cards are so poor you need to bet flop and raise turn. Another opponent will often hold an ace and will call you.

Bet the hell out of the hand on the flop. Sure you might not make money, but if you check/call and a K, J or T hits the board, then you dont know if you are good anymore, and you probably have to pay off.
Get the money in while the getting is good. |
