I'm opened this thread, typed control-f, typed in "thinkpad", and the firefox page search went red, came up with nothing. I'm very dissapointed. [/ QUOTE ] I have a corporate issued Thinkpad from my work, at Cisco Systems. Aside from the ultra-portability of the unit, making it very suitable for business needs with frequent local traveling from site to site on campus, I wouldn't recommend it. I have had numerous issues with my Thinkpad. My work actually had to work with IBM on all the machines we lease from them, it was a huge recall effort and plenty of lost time and effort for both companies. Shortly aftwards, IBM sold off this division to Lenovo. I have built my own twin 2001fp workstation for playing at home and will get a Inspiron 9400/E1705 this coming week so that I can play while in L.A. for vacation---yes, the Thinkpad is that unreliable. Plus the Dells have some more bells and whistles which is good since while we use these for our work, they are also used for our own leisure as well. |

How customizable are the Mac Mini's? If I bought the base model now, could I upgrade the RAM and stuff later? [/ QUOTE ] Well, they're really small, so there's not much you can add to them except RAM (wireless and bluetooth are standard), and they use only one stick, so you'd have to swap it out. The case is a little tricky to open, but the RAM is very accessible once you get the case open. Here's a site with video tutorials: http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_cente...directory.html |

[ QUOTE ] As an everyday user of the Inspiron, my total failure occurred at 13 months - just as designed. [/ QUOTE ] I am sorry, but this is such an idiotic statement. They offer up to a 3 year in home service plan for every laptop they sell. And you want to imply Dell designs them to crap out in a year? [/ QUOTE ] So they get the pure profit either way? Through the planned obsolescence or the hyper-inflated 3 year extended warranty? OK, Mr. EE/MechE, what's the design rationale for having the power supply interconnect consist of 5 hair-thin copper strands? |
