I don't hate vegetarians, but I think they are often self-righteous and pompous about their choices, e.g., all of Elaine's references to "eating flesh," and the like.

[/ QUOTE ]

For the record, anyone who is upset about me calling meat "flesh" or "dead animal" needs to come to terms with their own meat-eating choices, because obviously, if you were OK with eating meat, my calling it "flesh" wouldn't wig you out.

[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't wig me out, it's just dumb. It makes no more sense than me saying "Elaine eats photosynthesizing stablizers of nature instead of meat."

Btw, this is an example of you imposing your beliefs on others imo.

Not sure how this counters anything I said.

Basically that you will be doing the same thing when you become a father, whether or not you are aware of it.

[/ QUOTE ]

That seems pretty reductive to me.

I would think that the things parents have conscious control over (e.g. religion, sex, diet, etc), and their conscious imparting of their values, has at least some impact on their child.

But your overall point is interesting and I would bet for the most part true.

This crap really pisses me off. Meat is the english word for animal flesh that is eaten. Just as the english word for edible plants without seed bearing fruit is vegetables.

I rarely, if ever, do this, but

LOL!

Yes, I'm struggling with my own latent guilt over that chicken sandwich I ate, so that's why I find your phraseology pompous and self-righteous.

Hahahaha.

Paluka,

My point was simple. They are animals, dude. Nothing wrong with eating animals. That's what people do.

[/ QUOTE ]

el diablo,

they're colored, dude. nothing wrong with enslaving, beating and hanging the coloreds. that's what white people do.

there are lots of animals that have more intelligence and even compassion than some retarded people. should we go around eating retarded people simply because we can? this argument about the food chain holds no water for me.

Paluka,

"the exploitation of migrant (and often illegal) workers by fruit and vegetable growers"

How much thought do you give to this in your purchasing decisions?

Would you rather eat fruits and vegetables that involved cruelty to humans basically working in bonded servitude or eat some meat that involved some poor conditions for animals?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have thought about it, but have not really educated myself on the issue. Historically, meat packing plants and so forth are also really awful places to work, but I don't know that much about current conditions.
Animal cruelty is not my only reason for my vegetarianism- you alluded to some other reasons in your earlier semi-retarded post.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you want to learn about the meat industry's ill effects on humans, you should read Fast Food Nation.

"In his examination of the meat packing industry Schlosser finds that it is now dominated by casual, easily exploited immigrant labor and that levels of injury are among the highest of any occupation in the United States. Schlosser discusses his findings on meat packing companies IBP, Inc. and Ken Monfort. Also, Schlosser retells the disastrous steps of meat processing, and reveals the shocking truths about the typical beef and chicken patty, which are believed to be based on cattle and poultry who eat things such as manure, dead cats and dogs, and themselves." from wiki

You mean the one where you didn't like the fact that I pointed out we are at the top of a food chain?

[/ QUOTE ]

It's called a chain because it links together.

The proper term these days is actually a web.

There is no "top." And if there were, OMNIVORES wouldn't be it. Carnivores would.

And that's why I don't own my cat.

So what you're telling me is that cows can turn manure and dogs into hamburgers? I consider the 21st century an overwhelming success already.
