Saberhagens The 12 Swords series has the makings for the greatest 12 part epic in cinematic history. It did kinda trail off there towards the end, but the story is just so rich and full of facinating characters, i don't see how a competant screenwriter and director could go wrong.
It's perfectly structured for a series, as each of the swords has a different identity and becomes the ultimate McGuffin for really cool fanatasy stories that go far beyond your usual Dragons and Wizards BS. |

Stephen King's Dark Tower series. [/ QUOTE ] To do it, right, though, it'd have to be done in roughly 10 parts. Given how badly most SK has transitioned to the big screen, it'd be tough. I'd love to see them try, though. |

Stephen King's Gunslinger series. [/ QUOTE ] I just got done reading this series for the first time and I strongly agree, IF and only if Stephen King had no creative control over the movie/series. Also, it would pretty much require sending 1980s Clint Eastwood through a time machine in order to play Roland. Other casting: Eddie - a young Brad Pitt Susannah - a young Angela Bassett Jake - no idea. The Man in Black - Kevin Spacey Swede |

It is no surprise as Eastwood's "man with no name" was a key inspiration for Roland.

Sounds liek the Gunslinger stuff would work as an HBO series, and I feel the same way about GRRM's A Song of Fire and Ice series. I'd kill to have a huge tv series of those books.

Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. If you haven't read it, you should.

Absolutely. I'd love to see Ian McShane (Al Swearengen from Deadwood) playing Flashman in his middle years.
