New Baseball Stadium Question

When a town/state pays for the majority of a new stadium with taxes, who owns the stadium? Does the owner still get to keep it just cuse its his team and its the towns way of keeping the team? Or does the town own the stadium?

but in many cases the team reaps most or all of the reward and the taxpayer gets reamed. Then, after fielding losing team after losing team, the owners threaten to move if the city doesn't build them another new stadium with an even sweeter deal. It has happened with all three franchises in Seattle and my loyalty to the teams here is hovering around nonexistent.

Before I read the word "Seattle" I was going to ask if you were from PIttsburgh. Ha.

I feel your pain.

In Pittsburgh the City Owns PNC park, and the Pirates are obligated, even if they sell, to play in that stadium for many years, can't remember how many exactly, perhaps 20, before moving, or else they have to pay for the park essentially.

Steelers paid a lot of Heinz field, and they are never going anywhere, so thats not even worth mentioning.

The Pengiuns need a new place to play, and were offered a FREE PRIVATE arena that would not be owned by the city. This offer was made my Isle of Capri Casino, the deal is, if they get the Pittsburgh slot license, they build a free arena, seems like a win-win situation, but our great Gov. basically spit on it. He's a philly guy, and cares not about Pittsburgh. Instead, he has a "plan" to build a new one, which, of course, requires public moneies, and Harrarh's gets a slot license with which it does very little for the city...

Who do YOU think is greasing the palms?

Sure, every time you pass by SoDo you'll remember how they reamed us, but if you ever try to collect UI you'll remember how Boeing reamed us (with the same threat - make it cheaper for them to lay off people or they'll move).

Teams are businesses. Businesses do this crap all the time. You just don't read about it as much when it's not sexy like a stadium.
