Seat 1 has a habit of trying to steal in this spot, plus I know two aces are dead. Too cocky for my own good, I get a brilliant plan. Call down with nothing and find a spot to raise.

6th Street - (3.35 BB)

Seat 1: xx xx K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___bets

Well, I'm not going to win the pot by checking.
What's your standard line with air against opponent's likely air ? I suppose folding always works, but there gotta be some value in resteals.
I'm kicking myself for not raising the 6th, but with the board like mine its hard to represent strength. His river check is bad news. He is more likely to fire final bluff with nothing and fold to a raise, check seems like two small pairs wanting to check-call.

Consider raising third. Consider betting fourth. As actually played, fifth is a fold. Sure, he probably doesn't have anything, but neither do you. If you're going to "make a move," do it now or maybe on sixth street. I recommend that you reserve move-making for higher limits, though.

If you think that your river bluff has a 20% chance of working, make it.

Yeah 3rd is a definite raise. And I'd add that if you're going to make a move, do it in a bigger pot. You're going to fight on a 1.35BB pot. Doesnt seem worth it.

I thought about raising the third, didn't like it. My flush draw is very live, but 1 ace and 1 king are dead, so I wasn't very eager to play this 2-3 handed. If my 6 was in the hole, and A or K up, I would probably raise, but at this level raising with 6 up is going to get more curiosity than respect.

Am I underrating this hand ? Is it a fine hand to play in a small pot with 2 dead outs to high pair ?

An A & K is dead yes, but you are raising into 4 opponents, one who is the bring-in, and the others who all have door cards as dead as your hidden cards.

Bear in mind the advantages of raising with AK6 as opposed to 6KA when on a steal. With AK6, if you catch an A or K you're in excellent shape, while with a 6 you're going to take the pot the majority of the time on 4th or 5th. With 6KA, if you catch an A your action dies, if you catch a 6 no-one will care, so you lose steal effectiveness there.

Plus diamonds are totally live. So yes, raise

What a stupid call on 5th

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

If you want to "punish the stealer" you should raise.

But in this case folding >>> raising > calling

If your goal is to play like a losing player, then you succeeded with the way you played this hand. Your call on 5th and 6th ,make absolutley no sense. What are you trying to accomplish? It is possislbe that the ohter player does not have a hand either, but are you going to try to defend every pot where you think the oither player has nothing but you don't either? Your chances of winning with that style of play are slim. Seeing this kind of play makes my stomach queasy.

Look to play and win with quality. Then you will be on your way.
