To answer the original post -- yes you are correct that PH's style of play is outdated. Phil is a smart guy who is very good at reading other players, his downfall since he had a great year in 2003 is in coping with and reacting to the much looser, almost reckless style of play favored by many of the people he faces off against. My gut tells me that he does not want to change his style. It worked well for him for years and he is reluctant to change. Couple that with his prominence as a notorious figure in the poker world and one can understand his reluctance. In time, his popularity will trail off and he will have to adjust in order to start winning again.

Note the tournaments where Phil has done well. The head's up championship was a 64 person, invitation only event. Most of the players there were solid pros. That is where Phil succeeded in the old days and where he can succeed now.

OMG Phil Hellmuth is so bad at poker. And he's such a jerk. But his assertion that they should raise the buy-in of the World Series to $25K is right on. Too many players. None like Hellmuth though, thank goodness. He's such a jerk. Plays perfect poker. But he's a jerk.

his downfall? are you an idiot? he made the TOC final 2 first year, comes back the second finishes third, has made how many wpt final tables, won the national heads up championship, has had countless WSOP cashes and if not mistaken is the top all time in cashes.
