dont let the kids battle on your behalf. that could reflect very poorly on you.
continue to vehemently lobby on your own. show proof of you past popularity (being requested to speak and whatnot.) show evidence that you "built the physics department on your own." show evidence that your students did very well on the ap tests. tell them that tng taught using resources that you provided (lesson plans, etc) in a useful form. |

Can you go to the school board or schools administration? If she is clearly putting incompetent teachers for the AP slots or teachers in classes they dont regularly teach in/have no intersting teaching in, then maybe all of this needs to be brought above her head. you probably should try to approach this issue in a formal matter and present your case with the support of the department.

yeah, part of me hates the kids idea cuz it will look like i put them up to it, and i don't want that. but at the same time, they are the ones who know have the most info on the subject. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, maybe the way around this is to have the pricipal initiate this. ie: Tell the principal "Ask the top Physics students from the last several years about me vs THG vs TTWC". It's a little more risky in that you can't be sure he talks to the right students, but it doesn't make you look like you're going around his back or getting students to fight your battles for you. |

Suck it up. You took a year off and they covered for you and this is the price you have to pay. You have to start off again at the bottom of the ladder, work your way back up and prove yourself all over again. You did it once you can do it again. I hope you enjoyed your year off. [ QUOTE ] i can't prove i am good at my job, at least on this forum. i guess you'll just have to take my word for it. [/ QUOTE ] No, I mean can you prove it to the new principal? I think the key is proving to him that: You>THG>TTWC Any way the old principal can give you a good reference or is she persona non grata? [/ QUOTE ] well, the new principal has never seen me work. he can ask around and will hear good things. he can look at the scores of my AP kids, but he has to go with what he knows. i understand and can respect this. the new guy may be better than me, and that is fine. i have no problem working with good people. the real issue is TTWC. he needs to know that she is bad. the problem is getting that information to him. by all rights, TAP should have told him this, but for whatever reason she has not. |

I think you should also reference the schedules from before you went on leave. In particular point out that with far less seniority you were teaching the AP Physics class while TWWC was not and if you were more competant then, how has she suddenly been "promoted" over you. Did she go back to school and get another degree? (no) So why is she suddenly more qualified to the point where she is only teaching AP classes?

If the kids scored higher on the AP tests when you were the teacher in comparison to crybaby and new guy I have no idea how the principal could be retarded enough to not let you teach the AP classes. I assume that the kids did do better on the AP tests when you were teaching, right?

Point out your former students' excellent AP results. If they don't budge stick with the job for a year since it sounds like you want to stay in. If TTWC and/or TNG students' AP scores are low next year, use it as a bargaining chip. Make graphs if you have to. Hell go for a powerpoint presentation.

[ QUOTE ]
Are you prepared to quit over this issue? If so, do everything within your legal rights. Take the issue to the school board, and take it to your local newspaper as well. Spread the word that this is happening. The school board needs to know how your admins are performing. Other teachers need to know that this could happen to them. Parents need to know that their kids are getting the shaft. Kids need to be informed, and they can choose to be a force on their own. Go up the chain in the most professional manner you can handle. Good luck! Edit: Just saw that you don't want to quit. Still think the issue needs escalating, just more delicately. [/ QUOTE ] i'm just a guy who teaches high school. it is not worthy of media attention. the principal and TAP ARE the administration. the board would never get involved, as it is the job of the administration to deal with these issues. other teachers know that there is a [censored]-job going on in the science department, but there is not much they can do. getting rid of bad teachers is not easy. once one is tenured, there is TONS of red tape to go thorugh to get of them. you can't just fire them, as the union is a big bully. |

[/ QUOTE ] well, i was the only one to teach the class before this year, so there is nothing to compare it to until this year's results come back. that said, since i gave TTWC all of my notes, test and assignments, it shouldn't have been too hard to teach the course. |
