This was an interesting hand I played last night. I'll post results after I get a few replies. I am sitting on around 4.5k. The villian in the hand just made sat down and seems to be a decent, thinking player. It is 6am at this point but he just sat down so I don't know if he is fresh or not and chip reesing or if he was playing ealrier (I only just sat down at the main game too after the must move was consolidated). The only hand I had seen him show down was when he raised a fish after a fish bet the river on a flush and paired board and the villian raised to get the villian off his hand with just a straight. The fish actually called and just had a straight to chop, but nonetheless it showed me that the villian is willing to raise with fairly marginal hands.
I am in the SB with 10 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Villian raises in MP to 125. Fish calls on button. I call. Flop is Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. I chk, villian bets 150 into 375, fish folds. I call. Turn 10 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I lead for 400 representing a draw block bet. He raises 1400. I interpret him to be thinking he's protecting vs. the draw. I shove. He thinks forever and calls. Is there a better way to play my hand? Thanks, dlpnyc21 |

No way! Folding pre is terrible he wants to play hands here with his decent stack to try and stack out other players. This is the perfect type of hand. While it is a cause for trouble spots such as this, it is definitely a great hand to get a great stack with. I just took a step back. I mean he can only call here with a better hand obv he has Qs UP or a set! I don't mind your preflop line you just need to let go on the flop. I hate playing from behind and taking the passive line. You have no idea where you are here. Too many hands have you crushed at this point. Looks like you are only beating AIR which is slim to none of his holdings on the flop. And obv with his allin call he has a made hand. Seems like yuou only have AQ-QJ beat here plus AA and KK.

versus the straight forward types that play in that game (don't do too much TURN semibluffing), i like a v strong lead on the turn and fold to a raise. like pot or maybe slightly more. if he just calls, it will be a very easy river value bet on half the deck and the other half well play poker =)

He thinks forever and calls with AA and hits a 7 on the river. Anyways, the reason i posted this hand is b/c I think the turn is interesting. As I see it my options are
1) Chk-call lead blank river 2) CR (this might be best I think in retrospect) 3) do a donk draw block bet, which is sophisticated and I was using his tendency to raise light against him. I think vs. certain thinking players who with bluff raise when you lead like this (or even just raise with marginal hands) this is a pretty strong play, but maybe the other options are better? IDK |
