If non-lethal was the only option, I would go with the Taser X26c.

Tazer is probably the option. The questions though.

1) What if miss the first shot? Do I get another chance?

2) If I shoot one villain, can I also shoot a second one if he comes by?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know the answer to either of these questions, but I would imagine that both issues would be resolved by owning multiple tasers. Personally I would go with a badass alarm system.

Also, Im a single guy with no kids, and little in the way of people dpending on me, if I had kids etc I would be a lot less reckless with my stance on things. Kids and guns are rarely a good thing if you arent going to be upfront, and teach them everything about them.

why not just surrender everything?

if somebody broke into my place, i'd call the cops and then just sit and wait for them. there is nothing i would defend with my life, except for another human being. i think the chances are slim to none that a burglar would try to harm you if you stayed out of their way.

[/ QUOTE ]

This could go in another thread, but this is one thing I really disagree with. A LOT if not everyone is going to call me stupid, but I get pissed when someon [censored] with something that I worked for, or that is mine. I dont care if it is an inanimate object or not, but I would defend my things, money, cars, jewelery, etc even as far as to kill someone who tried to take them. They are mine, I value my stuff over the life of some douchebag criminal. If I had a situation where someone was messing with my car, or in my apartment, I wouldnt hesitate to silently pull a trigger killing them.

[/ QUOTE ]

Good luck with this. Granted, it's a really broad justification, but there IS such a thing as deadly force statutes, which vary greatly between states. Generally, though, if you shoot someone breaking into your car and kill them, you're screwed. Same if you shoot someone as they are leaving your house with your stuff. Screwed.

In the city of st. louis, you can shoot and kill someone if they are in your house, or trying to break into it. You can not kill someone on your lawn or breaking into your car, unless its in a garage attatched to the house. Know your laws.

In most places you can legally kill someone who enters your house with felonious intent (which is assumed if they are forcibly entering at night).

You are thinking about this wrong. Things like guns should be the absolute last resort. You should think about keeping people out first. Make sure you have a good deadbolt lock and sturdy door, make your windows less accesable and make sure people cant get in throught your garage if you have one. And if someone broke into your house wouldn't the first thing you tried to do be leave the house. Or are you one of the tough guys here that would kill people over a t.v.

If you are unwilling to own a gun you need to consider whether any of your two options is more effective than shouting out "I've called the cops and they are on their way.". If they are breaking in to do a burglary that is probably sufficient and the lives of your family weren't in severe danger. On the other hand if they are doing a home invasion I doubt that yelling that or a taser or a paintgun would be much of a deterrent. What do you want to be capable of defending against?

At the very least it sounds like you could tighten up the security of your home: burglar bars, cameras, etc.

I am sure there are forums where LEOs and self-defense people hang out and could make some more informed suggestions.

regards,

raisins
