Default How to look for a New DSL/Cable Provider

Im just wondering how everyone looks for a new internet provider. Right now i have Comcast which i have no problem with execpt price. IM trying to find out which companies are located around me that offer either the same service or better for less money. Im having problems finding the smaller companies and i was wondering if there is a web site out there that lists all the companies in a general area.

Dsl Reports has a nifty isp search linked on their main page (top left area) you can try.

I too want to switch from cable because of cost. My local phone company offers DSL. Is there any reason to think I could get it cheaper through some other vendor? Won't another vendor ultimately be going through my phone company to give me the service anyway?

Why not just look in the phone book. Also when i signed up for my service recently I found that best buy offered better deals than the company they go through plus sometimes they throw in something like a $100 gift card to boot.
