I really fell in love with the city while I was visiting. I don't goto college and work a pretty basic job so I figured I could move to Vegas and get a similair basic job and have the same life there as I do where I live now.
I currently live in Phoenix, AZ. What I was wondering is..how is the job market in Vegas? how about cost of living? I would be looking to rent an apartment so what are the average range of rent for a decent apartment. I am looking to move there by September of '07. I plan on saving up about 10 to 15k. If I have a tough time finding a job will 10 to 15k cover me for 3-4 months of bills and rent while still looking for a job. If there is a better forum to ask this in please let me know. |

I moved here on September 13th of this last year / without a job and with a crummy old car. I has saved up about 12K and had 3K in my online poker accounts.
Stayed with the one person I knew in town for about a week. Then I moved in with some people from roommates.com. They both dealt poker, and I played, so I played quite a bit until the variance beat me and I started playing weak tight. I eventually slowed down the gambling and fancy dinners. Got my job on Janurary 13th, with about 4-5K left, and 2K online. Had to move a month later and pay more. Still haven't gotten my security deposit back on the first place. Used the left over money to buy a new car. |

The job market depends on what you want to do and will change by Sep. 07 anyway.
The housing market is somewhat overbuilt IMHO and there are lots of speculators who just want to rent out their houses for whatever they can get, which seems to be keeping rent prices reasonable. Some real good deals out there esp. if you are willing to share a place. Check craigslist to get a sense of current prices. But who knows what it will be like a year from now. If you go the traditional apartment complex route, they may require 3-6 months rent up front if you don't have a job yet. Overall, unless you plan to live large, $10,000 should be fine to get you started. |

Many apartments will rent to you based on your credit and may require a larger desposit. But you won't have much of a problem. Jobs are plentiful, almost everywhere in town is hiring for regular jobs. Depending on what you want to do I could tell you what I have seen.
Apartment prices depends on what you want.... if you want ghetto you can get in for 500-600 for a 1 bedroom, a really nice place will run around 1000 for a 1 or 1200 for a 2. |

[/ QUOTE ] The "nice" rental prices seem a bit high. My (extended) family has three 2-bedroom rentals in nice complexes in Silverado Ranch and Green Valley, and we pay $850-950. No doubt you would pay more in a luxury hi-rise, but you can certainly get a perfectly fine 2 bdr-2bath unit in a suitable neighborhood for around $900. |
