The original Evisu hype was due to the fact that they used old hard wearing read:industrial denim. As opposed to the cheap manufactured denim that had become the norm. I owned a pair then, (1999) paid the about $300 for a pair and they were worth it. Believe me. No denim could have taken the hammering I gave that pair. I can't speak for their current 'fashion' lines but the originals were the bomb.
