Seriously, El D, OOT is pretty disrespectful of all women. Every thread involving a wife or girlfriend gets at least a couple very rude replies that the mods don't delete. (They will however delete anti-semitic stuff, which I find interesting).

Agreed. A very large number of people on my ignore list are there for being racist. And yes, even some for being really mean to women here. Though in general, I agree with El D's point that the majority of posters are very nice to "real" girls as opposed to the "supermodel" types. I think that the exchange between gorie and El D is also telling as he is correct that a huge number of posters have been complimentary towards gorie's photos, yet she recalls it diifferently, which shows the potential negative impact.

It seems to me that this post ignores the demographics of the forum - 96% straight male. 80% unmarried. 55% b/t the ages of 18 and 25 and then the age percentages go down as the ages go up with something like only 3% above age 50.

Young straight unmarried males tend to value appearance more than inteligence or personality, especially when you can see a female's appearance at a glance but you can't get to know their personality or inteligence. I think as people get older, an perhaps think about settling down and starting a family, they give more weight to non-appearance factors.

OP realized that she was stepping into a minefield, but I guess I don't see any potential for success in getting a group of this demographic to overvalue appearance. It'd be like suggesting to senior citizens home residents that they're not giving rap and hip hop music a fair chance and that they shouldn't limit their musical choices to pre-rock and roll era material.

If a woman posts a pic of herself in OOT 99% of people consider it crossing the line to make fun of that woman's looks.

If a man posts a pic of himself in OOT 99% of people believe it is standard to make fun of that person.
