Calling a fat person fat isn't misogynistic, sorry.
It would be sweeeeet if cheap labels like that really worked, though, wouldn't it? |

I like the fact that you challenge the critics to post their own pics. However, I have travelled quite extensively, and am disgusted by how North American women really let themselves go after 25. Somebody on here once said that women here expect you to think they are still pretty as they get older, fatter and get men's haircuts. It's true.

Elaine,
The only differance between OOT and "the real world" is in the real world, people say things that you find offensive when you arent around so they dont have to deal with you. Here , they are not given that option as you can read all their posts. Saying a woman is fat or ugly is also not misogyny. If any expression of a preference for the way a woman looks equates to misogyny, then most are guilty since most have a preference for either fat or skinny women. Misogyny must go further than a focus on looks, and represents a hatred of women as a group, because they are all whores or gold diggers etc. That kind of view is rarely, if ever, espoused on OOT. There is also no reason why you can draw a line at comments about a woman's looks, why isn't it misogynistic to say you are only attracted to women with PhD's in chemistry? Most people's preferences for XYZ quality in a mate are not chosen by them, but are determined by factors outside of their control (nature/nurture). You dislike that men here rate women on attractiveness cales because it is an affront to your personal taste. That it is your taste does not make it any more valid than any other taste. Your response will no doubt be, these comments promote a culture where women are viewed as objects etc. 1. What else are they supposed to be evaluated on when a single picture of them is posted? Their personality? 2. What women who were unexposed to misogyny came to OOT and had their world shattered? 3. Do you have any data that indicates that "misogynystic" comments like calling a woman fat contribute to societal domination of women rather than acting as a safety valve? or that they cause societal conditions rather than reflecting them? Edit- God damn you blarg and beating me to my point and saying it in like one sentence again... |

[ QUOTE ]
I'd be interested in seeing the examples of rude remarks towards women in these threads that you feel are at the same degree of inappropriateness as anti-semetic remarks. [/ QUOTE ] OK, here you go, from threads currently in OOT: [ QUOTE ] didn't read the thread but i suggest slapping her, hard. [/ QUOTE ] Do a content analysis on OOT and compare the number of times someone suggests violence against women versus violence against any other group of people. Not even 5 year olds get this much action on OOT. [ QUOTE ] Why are women so stupid? [/ QUOTE ] Just replace "women" with another other group. Example: Why are Jews so stupid? Then watch the mod response. I'm not going to find you more examples. You can do that on your own. I prefer not to read them and certainly not to re-read them. |

It is because the majority of women say stupid things like the OPs wife. Its a fact, as all the married guys in that thread seemed to atest too. Also, why get so pissed about hyperboles?

Blarg, take that racist tone elsewhere!
Or something. (that's how you win arguments nowadays, you throw out senseless inflamatory names) This thread needs some SPACE MOOSE! (for those of you who don't know the backstory, Space Moose was a very popular underground campus comic strip that was at the University of Alberta (Canada). The strip was hillarious and also took liberties making fun of pretty much anyone and everyone, very very very un-PC. Interestingly enough the artist's favorite targets were fundamentalist Christians and ultra hardcore feminists (which apparently were rampant on campus). here is a link to the archive containing them all, I highly suggest you check them out, very OOT style humor) http://www.hackcanada.com/canadian/zines/spacemoose/ and a few gems a few non-feminist related ones

i'm fat - i don't expect people to think i am attractive because of it - i know i am not. so i wouldn't be offended by someone thinking my weight is unattractive. i don't think that is really the point of the thread ?
i find it disturbing when girls who are definitely NOT fat are called fat , though. this happens way more often than it should. but not much can be done about that. there is a lot about the world and the way people think that i don't like, but can't expect to change. i think it's sad in general when people find it necessary to constantly make fun of people for their flaws (men & women). especially people who aren't putting themselves in the position to be judged. i try to not be that way although i'm sure i do it sometimes too without realizing it. even ignoring the comments on looks/weight (which can be pretty bad) - i think there is often a lot of hostility toward women that shows up on this forum and just accepted when a lot of it really shouldn't be. probably isn't as noticable to most of you since you're all guys and can just laugh along. i have a pretty good sense of humor but i've definitely gotten sensitive to some of these comments after reading this forum as long as i have been, because i realize it's not really funny. i am not saying i am expecting a change, i'm not. just giving my opinion and agreeing with the other girls here knowing it really doesn't mean anything. |

Did anyone read that zoophila thread that got locked? I found it more than a little disturbing that the "general" forum on the zoophilia board looked/sounded a lot like OOT. IE - "What are you drinking right now?", "What are you listening to right now?", "poetry time".
No point to this, just posting it here because that thread was locked. |
