Barney's Warehouse is good for suits. They are basically suits that were sold at the Barney's on Madison Ave, but have been removed for new lines. I bought a suit for $450 that I had seen at Barney's earlier in the year for $800.

Then you have the option of going to the real Barney's to have it tailored at a discount.

Ditto Off 5th (Sak's 5th avenue discount outlet). not sure if you have them on the east coast, but it's the best place to buy a resonably priced name suit here in the bay area.

Lapel width and shoulder padding changes seasonally. The difference between the jacket size and the waist (the drop) is typically 6 inches. That is, if you're a 42 chest, the trousers on pants are usually a 36. Them's the breaks.

There is an Off 5th at Woodbury Commons. It's a giant factory outlet mall, about 40 miles upstate from the GW bridge. There are roundtrip buses from NYC that go there everyday.
