Hi Turn: That's great to hear, but it's also not our market. We've been publishing for almost 20 years and we do know what our market is. best wishes, Mason [/ QUOTE ] Of course. You guys have had enormous success and should continue to do your thing. However, surely you're not trying to discourage impulse sales. |

Hi Farfenugen:
Of copurse not. But the fact of the matter is that impulse buying is virtually non-existant for $30.00 books. Our books are sold because the buyer learns that they are the best books out there and will make a difference in their results. Best wishes, Mason |

The front cover isn't horrible like so many claim. On the back I think David's photo is fantastic, Ed's had better photos (I like the long hair look for him better). Visually I don't like the quote blocks on the back cover, I think they could have been better integrated into the design but the trade off is that Greg's quote wouldn't pop as much so I understand their validity.
Some thoughts for future covers: 1) TOP is a design that players world wide know for excellence in theory. HOH is a design that is 2+2's top seller (which is interesting because i didn't like it at first). I'd tend to lead towards these two title's designs conceptually when you release advanced books. 2) Since David is the Professor or Teacher, the foremost theoretical thinker, and Ed is the Noted Poker Authority, I like the idea of creating a classroom environment on future book covers from the pairing. The cover below really appeals to me as a consumer and a player who is always trying to learn, its something I'd pick up as an impulse buy (which I tend to do more than you would expect for poker titles that are not as well known). Ed, I like the cover. My reasons are the title is in big print and tells exaxtly what the book is about. The authors' names are on the front and the 2+2 emblem is on the back for easy identification. There are colors and there is a poker-related picture.
What more could anyone want out of a book cover? I hope the comments and concerns I have seen here are tongue in cheek or whatever. I would think the only ones who might be over concerned with the minutae of jacket design would be ones who are concerned this might result in a few extra sales to make up for the lack of quality in the book ( definitely not a 2+2 concern ). I have been playing full time as a limit player the last few months, and I am looking forward to clinging on to your new book as I put my toe in the no limit waters. Thanks. |

All in all I don't think it's a bad cover - I like the hand on the front and the 2+2 logo on the chips is a nice touch - just very badly implemented IMHO.
FWIW: I am not a designer by trade I am actually a pastry chef and spend a lot of time working out plate designs and layouts to make things look visually appealing - so while I have no relevant "industry experience" as pertains to cover design I know a thing or two about laying things out. I hadn't noticed there was a cover design comp for this cover! - I shall attempt to lookout in the future for other covers that may be thrown open the same way this one was - perhaps in the future you will be able to critique my design work as harshly as I have yours You could have made this cover plain white with plain black text front and back and I'd still buy it - as I'm sure your core market would as well. I think it's a little dissappointing that a company that prides itself on quality throughout didn't quite get this one right - but again minor considerations. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy and actually read the content which is far and away more important than the cover - and I'm pretty dam certain you spent enough time to get that bit right |
