[ QUOTE ]

The thing I struggle with the most is that I've never cooked more than basic stuff and I don't know what to cook. I'm clueless. If I don't have anything at home, it's either fast food or pizza because it's convenient.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you don't have one, get yourself a Foreman grill (obviously doesn't have to be Foreman brand). They're cheap, super easy to use and pretty much impossible to [censored] up unless you really try. I do have a real bar-b-q, but the grill is just so, so convenient I use it all the time and the propane is more of a special treat. I could probably live just on stuff I cook on that grill. Try and get one where the grills come out so you can throw them in the dishwasher.

Steaks, burgers, dogs, chops, bacon, wings (breaded, not happy with bar-b-q or buffalo on the grill), sausages, etc, etc.

Of course the microwave is an easy second when it comes to cooking implements.

Oh, and I really, really like steaming vegetables. Super super easy and super fast - Amazes my wife because she thinks it's really finicky (???). All you need is a pot and a steamer basket. It's a metal basket thingy that goes in the pot. You can get 'em anywhere for a couple bucks. You put enough water in the pot so it comes to just below the bottom of the basket. Put the veggies in the basket. Put a lid on the pot and put in on the stove on high. Once the water starts to boil it only takes a few minutes for the veggies to be done. I really like doing beans (really quick) and baby carrots (a little longer - Once you've done it a couple times you'll know how long to leave them in. If you're not sure if they're done just yank one out and try it (carefull, hot!)). If you like, season them with some salt and/or butter/margerine before they start cooking. Oh, and don't forget to yank the ends off the beans before you cook them!

Tastes way, way better than from a can...! Prolly takes about the same amount of time, too.

Day 1

Got up this morning at 8am. This surprised my wife because I've been getting up around 11 lately. This is another reason I wanted to get myself on a schedule as over the last few months I've gradually been staying up later and later and sleeping in later and later. Which isn't really a problem, it just makes dealing with the rest of the world a little difficult sometimes.

So I stumble out of bed and head for the shower - I am a complete [censored] zombie until I shower.

There's no water!

We have some construction going on behind our place. We live in a townhouse and they've been replacing a bunch of the soil accross the way from us due to a leak in a heating oil storage tank. So apparently they dug something they shouldn't or just decided to mess with us.

I crawl back in to bed. Fortunately I don't fall back to sleep for the next two hours. Instead after 10 minutes of staring at the ceiling I decide I'm awake enough to do breakfast.

Breakfast is 2 eggs, 3 slices of bacon and 4 slices of toast. I do the eggs in the microwave in a couple ramikens so they come out like egg mcmuffins (you can do this if you cook them in a mug as well - crack an egg in each mug, stirr it up well then pop it in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds until it's solid) and make sandwiches with a little mozzarella. The bacon's just a few minutes on the Foreman grill. Quick, easy, filling yum!

We watch this week's Sopranos, which I hadn't had a chance to see until today, while eating breakfast. By the time that's done the water's back on. Yay!

Later I have lunch which consists of 4 pork souflakis. I feel a little bad about the lack of veggies and all the meat, but they've been in the fridge a few days and need to be eaten.

I finished off the last of my cola with lunch. Haven't started to feel the effects of withdrawl yet, I'm hoping I'll sleep through most of it tonight, but tomorrow morning could be rough.

Yes, when you drink as much cola as I do, there's withdrawl. Obviously nothing like heroin or cigs but between the sugar and caffeine it's not fun. I've kicked the cola a few times before. You can expect a low grade headache and general feeling of crappiness, like a small hangover for about 24 hours starting 8-12 hours after you kick.

Later I started my first workout in at least ten years. It was abbreviated because my basement is full of crap and I had to make room plus some of the bars needed to be re-taped cuz I've had this equipment longer than some of you guys have been alive. Just a light upper body workout to get things started, about 15 minutes. After cooling down, had an apple for a snack.

Dinner was a plate of about a dozen chicken wings.

I plan to do an hour's walk every night before bed, one thing I really miss about not having a dog is the excuse to go out for a walk every night. Tonight I split it in two. At 8pm I took a break from work, had a snack consisting of an apple, some cucumber and a granola bar and did a 20 minute round trip walk to the mall for cat food.

I just got back from a 40 minute walk and I'm off to bed as soon as I wind down a bit.

I'll join the photo club sometime this week-end.

Summary: Put myself on a schedule and more or less stuck to it, ate well and got some exercise.

You at 255 looks pretty much like what I do now.

I always thought you were some skinny college freshman wearing those tight jeans everyone wears now with a moptop or some other trendy haircut. Dissapointed.

Yeah, I know this post seems a little gay.

Also, jason_t suggested a min loss goal, which I like. Clearly I shouldn't be able to drop 10 lbs and make money. I think 50 is a good min and I'm tempted to think it shoudl be higher.

To be honest, so are both mslif and I but we weren't sure how you'd feel about that. If you want to up it, we feel that would be best for you and would be fine with that.

The min loss and the sliding scale system are both good ideas and I will be incorporating it as well. Will post my equivalent amounts soon unless one of the fatties would like to do it for me. Good luck to everyone and myself. Been walking/jogging and eating slightly better for last 2 months. This morning I will be starting HIIT as well as start lifting more.

Great idea Bison. Motivation is the key to advancement, especially in fatties. Now everyone start getting in shape and earning that dough

I still don't understand your part in this. You won't pay unless you meet your goal?

This is correct, that way when it gets to crunch time, some game theory will come into play hopefully.

The money isn't important to me, and it will not motivate me to lose weight. I do, however, want to lose weight and get in shape. I also would like to motivate others to lose weight with money that will hopefully be very meaningful.

Game theory wise, when the people that succeed want to collect, they will have to make sure I am on the path to success as well in order to get their money.

BTW, as for the amount of money I am giving away, it has to do with craps. Long story. And no, it doesn't involve winning a ton of money in it and being rich. I'll tell everyone when payment date arrives.

OK.

Here is a list of folks who have pledge to me. This list includes all the Dids specfic pledges and anybody who pledged for all 5.

I would assume all of you who planned to match bison would be using the revised pay scale?

Also, jason_t suggested a min loss goal, which I like. Clearly I shouldn't be able to drop 10 lbs and make money. I think 50 is a good min and I'm tempted to think it shoudl be higher.

Also upon scanning this thread I was a dick to Dcifer in my post- sorry duder.

Um, why is my name in italic bold? Did I do something special? Just to be clear I pledged 25 cents to each person picked for every pound that bison paid for.
