I agree with most of that except for two things:

a) England has one of the best midfields in the world, Lampard and Gerrard are unbelievable

b) Italy is fantastic, imho the most balanced team in the world.

[/ QUOTE ]

What's ever become of Michael Owen on the national front? Is there no hope of reviving the glory of his 1998 performace? (And where is he otherwise these days--benched by R. Madrid??)

[/ QUOTE ]

i wrote owen was injured. he just came back from a long injury today. article here

euro(the toughest soccer competition

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't see how a competition w/o the best team in the world and Argentina (somewhere between 2 and 5 in the world) is the toughest in the world. This like saying that the Big East basketball tournament is harder to win than the NCAA tournament.

[ QUOTE ]
ook back at the team:
henry
zidane
vieira
thuram
desailly (in his best shape)
trezeguet
to name a few

i'm surprised nobody mention the french team

[/ QUOTE ]

Zidane isn't near the player he used to be

It should be noted that the swedish defence have looked pretty weak in a couple of games lately, wich is something I beliveseriously impair our chances.

maybe behind italy but are equal to Czech & holland and above UK & Germany

[/ QUOTE ]

Barring injuries, UK is probably the strongest team in Europe right now, with the possible exception of Spain. Just look at the availible players. And you're overrating the Portugese so much it's not even funny.

Besides if last World Cup is any indication (I'll concede that it was flukey that so many top European teams lost early) other continents are catching up. Korea defeated Portugal, Italy, and Spain. The United States also beat Portugal and Senegal bounced Sweden. To say these teams aren't capable of beating good European sides is simply untrue.

[/ QUOTE ]

Anybody can beat anybody else. But they need to get very lucky. Without Egypt and Cameroon I don't see any really good African sides. Ivory Coast did reach the final in the African Cup of Nations after getting lucky in the semis, but they are depending too much on Drogba.

The asian teams did well last time around, but will no longer have home turf.

Even though I think Brazil will win the cup, the Europeans will dominate the competition even more than usual.
