I have no qualms helping good people, regardless of if it's -EV. My sense of self worth is worth more than the game of poker.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't get me wrong... I've helped out a few players because they were friends or good people. I'm just simply stating that is indeed bad for the game.

[/ QUOTE ]

i'm sure it is. that said, i'm sure it will be relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of "game-badness".

Who's saying he'll actually apply the concepts correctly? Chances are he'll be one of those people carrying money from the bottom of the pyramid upwards taking a few shots at higher games and eventually setteling at some mid-stakes game.

etc blahblahblah etc

bottom line, helping out a nice guy is fine

weren't that how most of you started out?

Bob, nice job. People take this [censored] way too seriously. You decided to help a nice guy - this is far more EV than letting him grind away and lose at low limits. A long time ago, a friend called me and told me about online poker. He noticed I was a terrible player, and sent me the starting hand chart from Lee Jones WLLHE. He eventually quit poker, and now I've invested a significant amount of money in a company he is starting.

A year after he did this for me, I sweated my friend Mike and 2p2er mikeyKay for a while at low limits. He grinded his way up, had some bad swings, and eventually won a 750k guaranteed on Party for 150k. I'd never have played if it weren't for my friend, and Mike probably wouldn't have succeeded without me. All three of our lives are significantly better because of it.

Player pools are so huge that not helping a nice fish 'because it will hurt the games' is a childish joke. I firmly believe I have significantly helped dozens of players, and those players have probably helped dozens more. The number on the bottom of my pokertracker continues to grow faster and faster - why shouldnt I help people again?

While I'm pretty sure this post wasn't really a reponse to my "why?" I will point out that I wasn't suggesting Bob did anything wrong. I was mostly just curious why he decided to give this guy a book as opposed to the other countless idiots he plays with.

[/ QUOTE ]

the guy in question is just a really nice, friendly guy who i have struck up a friendship with. we don't get together outside of the card-room or anything like that. he just is a good guy. as far as the other idiots, most of them i would like to cut into little pieces.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you going to ask him out to dinner and leave the date open ended?

[/ QUOTE ]

in vegas i am going to have more things in your ass than most people have in their garages.

meh. The majority of the people who read poker books are unable to effectively implement what they read in those books.

It's possible I just got lucky in happening to find this place as quickly as I did.

[/ QUOTE ]

i found this place before I had even played for real..... it wasn't hard. Just googled and it came up.

I'm still amazed that the majority of people think they can win a game without first taking some time to understand it.

Anyone who doesn't help a friend or nice acquantaince becasue of some theoritical future EV they may be giving up is a pretty mean-spirited person.

This is good for you. If he decides to get better at poker you will be able to profit from his improvement.

i'm not sure how i will profit, unless you mean that he will play in the bigger games again where i still have an edge over him. whatever. i hope he improves and learns to play well. he is a good guy.
