You're 100% correct. But pre-BCS this game doesn't happen. The bottom line is nothing short of a playoff will "work" everytime. But between BCS and the old system, I take the former.

I think this game rates right up with the best of my time, just because the teams were both so dominant. I'd say the '87 Penn State vs Miami was right there as well as most of the other games mentioned.

From a personall standpoint, the '97 Rose where ASU makes a comeback only to blow it in the last minute ranks as the best game I've ever seen live. Well, maybe ASU's 19-0 beating of Nebraska earlier that year.

The PSU Miami 87 Fiesta bowl remains the most watched, highest rated college football game ever. Perhaps a lot of people here are too young to remember it?
