Just another comment:

What is surprisingly ass-backward about your thinking here is you want a new forum, not because "There is too much politics in Other Topics" or "Sports threads are crowding everything else", you propose a new forum for essentially the opposite reason "Not enough people are participating in an A&E thread." This thinking MIGHT make sense when it comes to your major value proposition (quality poker content -- purhaps you can generate some discussion of 5 card draw by adding a five card draw forum as it might spark interest/catch someone's eye) but it doesn't make sense for your "other topics" area.

If I make such a post about the latest Feist album, it will likely not get much play.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wouldn't it be great if it got a better chance though?

db,

FYI, even book threads can get a lot of responses, if they are about books people care about discussing.

Stranger than Fiction

Books I was reading

Not to get off topic, but the Old Masked Man isn't exactly hip to the kids music. Check out my Bloc Party thread last year for a semi obscure band that I reviewed, linked too and it got 100 or so responses.* DB, I think your reviews are good, but they should concentrate on new movies. Andy Fox did a great job with this back in the day.

lol!

I just don't get out to the cinema these days, and when I do, my wife doesn't want to see anything I want to. So I see what she wants to see. so, unless you want a review of 'The Pink Panther' (grim, isn't it ), I can't help you there.

db,

"Wouldn't it be great if it got a better chance though? "

Broken record, man.

Because A&E is here, lots of random crap that otherwise wouldn't get traffic also comes along for the ride. Get rid of a lot of the anchor material and reason for coming here, a lot of that stuff falls by the wayside.

Yes, A&E would be a good forum. However, for each A&E post gained, I wouldn't be surprised if the net effect resulted in losing 5-10 OOT posts.

Go to www.big-boards.com and check out the Off Topic sections of the biggest forums dedicated to specific subject areas for more explanation of how these dynamics work. This discussion has happened many times at sites with far more traction than 2+2.

No, I'm arguing a case.

You, on the other hand, are being an asshat with nothing to contribute. Take care - nature abhors a vacuum - don't let anything small and sharp near your ears.

DB - do you think the dynamics of a new A&E forum, vs. A&E related posts in the current OOT, will be that much different?

People will be encouraged to post more A&E in general, not just reviews. So yes, there will be incrementally more reviews, as you pointed out. But reviews are hard to write, and most people won't do it.

The signal to "noise" ratio in an A&E forum will still be very high for what people are defining as quality A&E posts. My guess is that it will be very similar to the current OOT, and reviews of dated movies will not be getting that much more attention as the new A&E forum gets flooded with "lower-quality" posts.

You construct a ridiculous argument by asking for information I can't possibly have...

[/ QUOTE ]

That you think this is information you can't possibly have (or can't easily get) strongly suggests that you shouldn't be making this decision. As unscientific as a poll on this site is, it's still better than your hunch or your thinking "well if I would want it, there must be tons of people like me."

I'm not trying to win anything.
