I vote in favor of a split. It's not as if OOT will be dead afterwards...

[/ QUOTE ]

the self-propelling downward spiral that would result from top-quality posters leaving that el d warns about is not as unlikely as you'd imagine.

Then it should be a heading called "ENTERTAINMENT" and not A&E don't you think? I could see a topic called "ARTS" but Arts and Star Trek, Donnie Osmond, Survivor, Summer Rental and The Sopranos just does not hold water.

You gys do realise it's not likely to be a bunch of intellectual stuff about Fellini, right?

It's more likely gonna be Star Trek, Lost, Sopranos, Dusk till Dawn, One Crazy Summer, The Futons, Hendrix, Hemingway, Stephen King, and so on, right? (but there'll be Fellini too, if someone wants to talk Fellini).

Would masterbation posts be considered Arts? Or Entertainment?

BT,

"So in other words, the A&E crowd needs to be forced to stick around in OOT for the sole benefit of the fart/sex/etc crowd, but screw the A&E crowd's own needs?"

This is not about the "A&E crowd's needs" it is about what is best for 2+2. I can think of a ton of things that would make OOT a much better place for many users, but they would also significantly reduce the total traffic in OOT.

"You read it here first guys. Split the A&E stuff off and the end of 2+2 is coming. Don't say you weren't warned. Repent now. "

You clearly don't understand the issues here. Whatever is done will likely have near zero impact on the main focus of this site, the 2+2 poker forums. However, there's a chance that the wrong decision here can significantly impact the total traffic in the OOT subsections.

"Heaven forbid the adolescents obsessed with banging myspace chicks, wanking, farts, the slights of their friends & families, etc., should be left cold and alone in OOT. "

Again, BT, you are confusing what you want from these forums with what is best for the 2+2 business.

pryor,

You said: "to be fair, i'm almost positive you're quoting tdarko out of context, or at least implying something he didn't imply "

I said: "'I do know that if A&E was taken out of OOT I don't know how much I would post here anymore' - tdarko"

tdarko said: "I do know that if A&E was taken out of OOT I don't know how much I would post here anymore since I really only come here for the Arts and Dining. "

Please elaborate on what it is you're almost positive about, thanks.

Anyone - Seriously - how many posters are like Bluffthis (don't go to OOT but would go to an A&E forum) and Diebitter (who want more attention paid to A&E posts)? My gut says very few posters.

Question - Do you really think, for example, that Pryor's film of that obscure movie that died, or Diebitter's threads, will get that much more attention ina an A&E forum?

The new A&E forum will be constitued mainly of current OOT'ers! I doubt they would feel that much more compelled to read / post in Pryor's film review thread, just cause it's sitting on the front page. In fact, they'd probably just go to OOT and post or read up on something they are actually interested in (no disrespect Pryor, I thought it was a well-written review, just had nothing to add in the thread).

So basically, for "higher quality" A&E threads, and more views, in an A&E forum - who exactly do you expect to be doing these things?

-Al

For those who want a little background on how this started, a mod made an off-hand comment in a Mod Forum discussion that NSFW content should be given it's own forum to avoid what seemed to be constant NSFW problems. Other mods responded and said it was worth considering.

When Mat got involved in the discussion, it seemed clear he was very interested in splitting OOT (for reaasons I think he's stated in this thread).

I wasn't happy with Sporting Events getting split off. But, I could see the NSFW/Sexuality forum being created.

But, I'm against an Entertainment Forum. That's a core part of OOT and would be a major blow to the quality of OOT if it were lost. It also seems that it would be another split with more almost certain to come.

The NSFW forum idea is dead. Power greater than Mat and Commodus put together have spoken.

Probably all of this has been said before, obviously a "split" is just ridiculous if you have a concept of what stirs OOT but here's my 1.5 cents:

-Interesting threads are responded too. If your film review of titanic is buried, it's probably because everyone has seen it (except daryn---wow!) and no one cares. Andy Fox would do film reviews and they always stuck around, because they were new movies. Try that instead of friggin ghostbusters.

-Removing AE entirely would contribute to a lack of a content here when people cannot think of interesting topics. This forum would go to [censored] without intelligent, AE discussion. Things have picked up lately, but just a few weeks ago I received a few PM's from occasional posters who asked me why OOT sucks with just relationship questions, and hot chick threads. Just because it's been running good for two weeks, doesn't mean it can survive.

People, Mods even!? are scared of an internet forum, if this is true, they should not be allowed to use the internet. It's ludicrous.

On a side note, with all the different personalities, there is no doubt in my mind that the "Mod Forum" is probably the most interesting forum on this board

El D,

your post, as written, indicates that tdarko would probably fade away from the OOT/sports/AE/politics alltogether, when his post indicated that he would probably post mostly in AE/Sports, but largely at the same level as before

a small, but important distinction
