tell me what you think of splitting 'a&e' into a separate forum

I think it's a terrible idea.

Is OOT really that scary that there are MODS afraid to come in here?

[/ QUOTE ]

in a word, yes. i don't really blame them either.

i suspect that if they feel this way, there are lots of other people on 2+2 that do too. if splitting would suddenly cause all of those people to generate more traffic, that would be in 2+2's best interest. but right now oot is in 2+2's best interest. oot has real numbers, a&e has speculative ones. so the question is to what degree a split could hurt oot.

i'm surprised that so many oot regulars think a&e is all we've got though. really, look at the thread list.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm just wondering what these terrified mods have to say about not only some of the best overall posters on 2+2, but also some of the best poker players, such as El Diablo, bison, and the former bruiser (may he rest in peace) being OOT regulars.

It's not as if avoiding OOT makes you a class act or something.

The problem, as I see it down the line, is weeks, months, or years after the split, when someone says, "Look at OOT, all they do is talk about sex and poop and the color of tennis balls," it will, for the first time, be (nearly completely) true. Then where does OOT stand?

[/ QUOTE ]

dude, it's not true. look at the thread list.

if a forum has traffic, nobody can refute it unless it's causing more problems than it's worth.

td,

i dont think thats a bad split at all, and i was hoping there was a better response than that. i like sports being in its own little hole.

that being said, i didnt experience the oot/sports split, so i dont know what that sort of split does to a forum.

yasher,

I was just giving an example, politics was another example. With my post, I wasn't stating that I was against the Sporting Forum split. I was jumping up and down the day the politics was removed from OOT and though I hadn't any real problems with the sports threads in OOT, I now see it has turned out to be a good idea.

not arguing,

~td

So, the idea it to separate high-minded film and television and music discussions from the peepee and poopoo threads? I get that, actually. I don't agree with it, but I get it.

What I like most about OOT is the mix of different approaches and ideas. If OOT was made up of ONLY help-me-get-laid threads and such, I think that many higher-minded posters wouldn't even visit, and that would suck. Perhaps the discussions of jazz instrumentals would improve, but the other hilarious, informative, and often poignant stuff would suffer.

Also, anyone saying there's something wrong with OOT and that it's full of neanderthal idiots has obviously never visited the politics forum.

i have my prefs set to display 30 threads per page... and i see 5 posts out of the top 30 that can be considered a&e, and that's pushin it, because a discussion of The Game probably belongs here.

if moving 17% of the top 30 threads to a new forum creates more than enough traffic to make up for it in that new forum, then i dont see why its anything but a good idea.

and then you damn artsy fartsies can keep your book reviews out of my poop.

Once upon a time there was the zoo & OT. Then there was the zoo, OOT, A&RB, S&R, etc., etc. Honestly, the easiest way to deal with things is to stick to poker-related topics. There are an exponentially increasing number of websites devoted to poopies, boobies, and peeners; how hot is my wife, and would you do her activity.

Yes we love our frivoluous forum, but honestly, 2+2 is supposed to be about cards, after all. Maybe I agree with AG on some level after all.

I was politely saying I don't respect you as a moderator, without resorting to name-calling. I know that your, and most people's, ability to read between the lines is limited, however. Please don't respond, I won't be reading. /[communication].

Wow. This is the most retarded thing I have ever read in OOT. I would suggest leaving home right now while your kid is still in his development stages so that he doesn't develop any of your retarded tendencies.
