What commentating Hellmuth has done, the radio WSOP and tv he has done on the poker channel here seems to have been of a pretty decent quality IMHO, I dont think you well get the bratish Hellmuth on this show he will want to be the intelligent salesman type Phil who wants the donks watching to buy his stuff.

I thought Hellmuth did some commentating on older WSOP final tables prior to hole cams where he wasn't too bad. I've also seen him on one of the late night poker shows (Ultimate Poker Challenge?) doing commentary for a table full of amateurs. Was fun listening to him flip out every time he said what the worst play in the current situation was, and then the player at the table would go and do it.

I think Hellmuth is perfect for this kind of job. Does anyone remember seeing the 2001 Jack Binion WPO? The one that Juanda won? They had Jerry Van Dyke from Coach on there doing commentary and he was absolutely horrible. But Hellmuth was also there doing sideline reporting and he actually had some very good commentary that made the show watchable.

Good to hear that Phil G. is leaving. Probably a nice guy but it was getting old. I think Hellmuth would be the death-knell for Celeb Poker. He cannot do any broadcast without turning the focus on himself. Dave would put up with about ten minutes of that crap.

I loved when he basically called Jeff Gordon an idiot for folding to a very small all-in raise. (I think it was something like Gordon raising to 3000, someone going all-in for only 600 more, and Gordon folding.) [/ QUOTE ] i can't remember the actual sequence, but it was a tiny amount.. more like $100 to stay in on $6,000. |

Phil Gordon mentioned at his book signing (I think this is the same signing where the audio clip is from) that he was producing a new show where average players would qualify to play against him in a sit and go. In between hands there would be instructional content about how the hands were played.
It sounded like a great show, I hope he gets it off the ground. |

I'm still trying to figure out why the got rid of Kevin Pollack for that other d-bag [/ QUOTE ] Because Kids In The Hall is behind only Monty Python as the funniest TV series of all time...? But I have a feeling you may get your wish - it didn't seem like Dave Foley was having all that much fun himself last season ("...if I cared about poker...") and the reality "stars" just about made him swallow his tongue (I'd have a hard time being in the same room with Johnny Overplayed without punching him too). My idea: Hellmuth and a wrestling announcer. And maybe a monkey. |

I can't believe it took him this long to get outta there... his podcasts during the wsop last year were pretty cool and I always thought that doing this celebrity stuff made him seem like a clown... always having to force a laugh at lame jokes like some big goofball... brutal
does anyone actually watch that show anyway... my gf got me to watch a few episodes when it first started... celebs fer her poker fer me... that didn't last long |

Phil Gordon should replace AJ Benover on High Stacks Poker! [/ QUOTE ] That would be an excellent name for a strip poker show. |
