Bryce,
I used to ascribe to the philosophy that "if it's breakeven EV wise it's always better to be a pain in the ass by raising" for metagame reasons etc, but after playing a high volume of hands in that style IMO it makes variance a tremendous headache, and opens you up to being outplayed in a large # of marginal situations by overaggro or very insightful players. Im in the BB with A4s, Good Aggressive HJ open raises all fold to me, I call. Flop comes AAA, i donk.
My thinking- He can't have an A, but he raised from the HJ so there is a good chance his non ace cards are big face cards he won't want to fold or a PP that i might get some real action out of. If i c/r it will shut him out of the raising action with most of his hands. Donking gaurentees a bet on every street when he has a hand he wants to get to show down. If i get raised my plan will often be to raise and donk again (depending on the card). I can represent that i paired the next card on the turn and don't want to give a free card. This opens him up to raise me again with his bigger pocket pairs and takes away his free card/showdown attempts on the flop and turn. Who likes my play in this situaiton? |

[/ QUOTE ] Anyone can show a profit with the nuts, but when you can squeeze out another big bet or so with 100% equity that's a heroic result (as opposed to getting another BB in with like TP or something). Nice post Surf. |

Nice post Surf. [/ QUOTE ] Thx bryce. I like the idea in your post, but since we're freeshowdowning we're only picking up an extra bet 6 out of 46 times, and even less b/c sometimes we hit and he folds, or we raise and he folds when he would have bluffed the river so in certain instances we're costing ourselves $. c/r looks more like BS. [/ QUOTE ] Against a LP raiser, I'd agree. Against an early raiser a c/r on that board looks strong. |
