This is my first post so forgive me if it is a little choppy. I have been lurking on the site for a while and I think the advice is hugely helpful. I think I played this hand poorly from the flop on and would like any comments. The hand is from Full Tilt so the converter did not work.
Table is 1/2NL. I had been playing a while at the table, but the villian sat down a few hands before and I have no reads and had not played a hand since villian sat down. Stack Size: Seat 1: Hero ($195.80) Seat 2: stokedhawk ($124.30) Seat 3: Taildragger ($198) Seat 4: Villian ($307.65) Seat 5: boblee52 ($185.60) Seat 6: mainer12 ($466.50) Seat 7: sakurabavn ($180.50), is sitting out Seat 8: CoachWEEZ ($213.70) Seat 9: NocketPines ($163.25) I am in SB with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villian limps in UTG+1, UTG +2 limps, folds to me, I call, BB checks. Flop is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I lead with pot size bet ($8) BB folds, Villian raises to $16, UTG+2 Folds, I call. Pot size $32. Turn 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I check, Villian checks River J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I bet $10, Villian pushes me all in Now what? My thought at the time is that he limped with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] x [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], has the 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]; or got the full house when the board paired on the river. My guess is that he thinks I hit the flush on the river and have a big [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I think I made a mistake not betting the turn when I hit the straight and possible should have checked on the river to induce a value bet that I could call. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. |

I would bet the turn fo sho, 1/2-3/4 pot, whatever. Don't be scared of the flush. Probably the cheapest way to get away from villain's flush is to bet into it, anyway.
This can't be right: [ QUOTE ] I lead with pot size bet ($8) BB folds, Villian raises to $16, UTG+2 Folds, I call. Pot size $32. [/ QUOTE ] Pot must be $40? So you're betting 1/4 pot on the river? What does this bet accomplish? And villain is pushing for 3x pot? fold ofdl ofdl ofold ofld |

instafold river.
on turn, if he's aggressive and will bet non flush (but may not call if he views you as tight, c/c may be way to go. If he's more passive, ie typcial fulltilt full 1/2 player, bet 1/2 on turn. |

I agree with above about betting the turn.
I've made that river call before, and I'll never make it again. |

I agree with everyone, bet the turn (about 2/3 to 3/4 pot). If I did decide to check the turn as you did, and thought there was a chance my hand was good. I would check the river, and maybe call a reasonable river bet. No way I call a push though. A weak bet was the worse thing you fould have done. I bet the villain had the 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], hoping you would call with the Ace. Of course the way you played makes it possible that he puts you on a marignal hand and is trying take you off of it. Regardless though you have to lay down.
