There was a good post that was made here that talks about this subject. Something to the effect of "The Evolution of a Poker Player".

AF, "Moreover I can be completely running over a lower limit NL table and another LAG will sit down, and most of the time he usually ends up taking control of the table and I concede it rather than playing back. But maybe thats the optimal strategy." When you're playing for the purpose in this thread, don't let that guy take control. That's what you're actually hoping for, a super LAG'd up low limit table where you can play completely wide open with no real concern of the stakes. [/ QUOTE ] But most usually at the lower limits these aren't good LAGs. They're simply reckless, and I think the optimal strategy against them is to just let them take control. I guess the problem I have is that most of the good playing LAGs are playing higher limits and its tough to find a place to learn how to play LAGish back at them for a cheap price. |

For what its worth prev. post Stokken [/ QUOTE ] Yeah thats one of my favorite articles. I think I have taken that exact journey too- Once I started realizing how to bluff better and win pots without premium hands, I got too loose and it became seriously -EV for a while. Finally now I have incorporated both aspects. Thats not at all to say that I'm done growing as a player or that I've reached any mountaintop though. |

AF,
The other thing is, in the games w/ better LAGs, it's often far more profitable to play a little snugger than them rather than try to outLAG them. |

lol I love sitting at some 5/10 tables with the regular lags like grim. Just start limp reraising everything.
In terms of playing lag, you asked what to do when people start playing back at you (the lag) preflop somewhat lightly? You fold your medium hands and 4 bet your good hands. Im embarrassed to say that iv gotten it allin vs samo preflop for 100bb with TT to his aces once or twice before I realised it was him and I got a better line on his play. |

The best value in learning how to play LAG is to use that knowledge against other LAGs when you play TAG in your regular game.
It is like chess. You learn an opening with the black pieces to play better against it when you are playing the white pieces, etc. |

i would say the best value in learning to play lag is to employ that style when it will be more profitable given the table conditions.
i don't like the chess analogy much. while i agree that in chess one way to learn to play against an opening is to play the opening yourself from the opposite perspective, you would be learning a ton of openings if that was your primary approach. maybe in blitz games or with an appropriately strong computer program you can experiment like that, but trying to learn every opening with the black pieces within tournaments would be a bit much. |
