Default Re: What kind of career do you have?

[ QUOTE ]
Do you enjoy doing what you do for a living? As for me, I'm currently a software developer and considering quitting and going back to college for a change in career.

I'm an independent IT consultant. Absolutely love it. Great hourly pay and I am (was) able to take a LOT of time off between contracts. Much better than the decade I spent as a salaried IT developer for a large corporation (50-70 hour weeks).

Sadly, due to offshoring and preferred-vendor contracts (which employ a lot of people for very low rates) good paying jobs are hard to find. So, it looks like i'll be going back to one of those 'regular' full-time jobs as it provides extra benefits (medical, profit-sharing, paid vacations/holidays/sickdays...).

Can you to stick with your job and take night classes? This would be great if your company pays or partially reimburses your tuition. This may also give you the opportunity to do a parallel transfer w/in your company (HR, Accounting, training, legal, maintenence, fitness center, cafeteria...) depending on what you choose as your new career.
