What kind of career do you have?
 

Do you enjoy doing what you do for a living? As for me, I'm currently a software developer and considering quitting and going back to college for a change in career.

Haha funny you mention that.. i was a code monkey before I decided to try teaching.... and while teaching isn't the most fantastic job in the world, compared to coding, it is.

So how long were you a code monkey for? I'm approaching the year mark.

Got hired in August 2000.... was out by April 2002.

haha, out of necessity, for starters. I just quit my coding job, without anything lined up or anything. Yea, it wasn't the brightest move in the book, but everythign worked out ok. I just sent my resume to high schools around my area, and during the summer (when schools typically are hiring for the upcoming school year), one of the schools contacted me, I interviewed, and was offered the job literally 2 hours after I interviewed.

These days though, with some recent Bush legislation, it's pretty much impossible (unless you're in the ghettoest of ghettoes) to start teaching without already having a credential.

I'm assuming you have a Computer Science (or equiv.) degree? There is alot more in the IT field then being a software developer. Maybe instead of going back to college you give something else a shot:

- Network Engineer
- Systems Engineer
- Database Administrator
- Systems Administrator
- Analyst

Project Manager for a Credit Card Company
Event Manager for a gaming company
Assistant to a pro poker player

I like all of my jobs, but in all three cases its because of the company/people I work with, NOT the job itself. Hate the job itself.
