This depends alot on your history with villian. his check looks like he is giving up on his bluff/semibluff since most players will always pay off this type of board with Ace high. If he is a good lag like you say he is i don't see very many hands he can call with because i expect all pairs to bet the river fully expecting you to call with an Ace. The only hand I can see him checking here is an Ace high flush draw that decided to check call the river now that the board paired. In general I like a value bet here better than your other example but a lot depends on your history with your opponent and if hes tricky enough to check a T here. FWIW I would check here if I have ever seen a player double check raise the turn and river.
