Enon,

I think you're taking this thread (and this forum) more seriously than it's intended.

"So by your logic you are ethically entitled to beat down a severely mentally disabled person?"

No, and I don't really think that's an obvious extension of what I said. There's no benefit to me beating up somebody. Eating helps me live.

In terms of the treatment of animals, I don't eat veal specifically because of how the animals are treated. (but I do eat Foie, but that's a longer explanation mostly hinging on the fact that the duck/geese are actually treated better than say most farm chickens). I make every effort to only eat free range meat. Etc.

If you are going to take a stance on animal cruelty, how can you eat foie gras? That just seems silly. Force-feeding ducks for days at a time may not be brutally painful like what they do to chickens but it's pretty cruel.

Gild,

Beyond the tube feeding, the ducks and geese are VERY well cared for. Moreover, it's not really force feeding. They will welcome, and ask for the tube when feeding time comes.

Read up on this, it's far less barbaric than it's been made out to be.

Vegan: "I haven't had meat in 5 years."
Jim: "I haven't had a banana in a month, but you don't hear me bragging about it."

Vegan: "Do you have any idea what they do to those chickens?!"
Jim: "No, but it's delicious."

if god didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

veganmav,
Since dumpster food is going to waste, shouldn't it be ok to eat dumpster meat?

Veganmav,

What about shrimp/other seafood? They're not grown to be killed or anything.

I'm not trying to become vegetarian/vegan or anything, but I feel a lot less guilty eating most seafood than I do chicken/beef.
