[ QUOTE ] I think I played 2,200 hands yesterday. Your just going to frustrate yourself by trying to find use out of this small of a sample. Haupt_234 [/ QUOTE ] Wow! I played 8 hours live yesterday - which probably amounts to about 240 hands! You go Haupt!!! [/ QUOTE ] you probably made more money than him cause live play is higher stake/ easier players |

Another Statistician who doesn't know anything about stats.
You guys and your "sample sizes" kill me. Confidence intervals is the key. If you are losing after even a few thousand hands - 90% you are a loser. Yes you need 20K or 40K to be "sure" - but do something proactive at 2000! Heck 500 hands and your down it's more like 65% |

I honestly try not to get to involved with the stats of poker -- I'm more attracted to the competitive strategy, but I've had plenty of 5k hand downswings, and a few 10k ones. I've heard of 20k downswings, but haven't experienced that. I agree with the original responses that 2k is nothing. 10k is not much, either, but it certainly provides a much clearer picture. |

I don't agree, 2k hands is just too few. That's because of the relatively low chance of being dealt a good hand. You might not even have been dealt pocket aces in 2k hands. Yesterday I was dealt QQ five times in 1k hands, and won none of them. So QQ is a bad hand now? I play it badly? My most significant loss during the session came from QQ. I need to look into how to play QQ? No. I just ran into AA/KK 3 times, a set for 66 once, and an ace high flop. I'm a significant winner with 33 over the last 6k hands; it beats KK/QQ/AK. Obviously 33 is not a better hand than KK. Oh, my flop and turn aggression were over 6.0 yesterday (I did, in fact, win even after those 5 QQs), guess I should start playing more passively now... don't change your play based on 2k hands!
There are some stats that you can check after 2k hands. Such as vpip. Generally 400 samples of anything will be sufficient. The problem is getting 400 samples of that specific case. If the chances of it happening are only 3%, you need to play 13k hands. If you want to examine your AA play you probably need at least 50k hands. |
