i've played a few 22 dollar stud tourneys on pokerroom and it's easy for me to spot all the horrible play going on, but i'm almost always still lost at how to beat these guys. it seems like i just have to sit back and wait for a hand, and often times i'll be very closed to blinded off before i get something. i have the 2+2 stud book and while i think it's a good read and it helped me learn how to play, it doesn't do much to help me do better in tournaments.

what percentage of your hands do good stud players play pre-flop?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you need to read your stud book a little closer next time.

[/ QUOTE ]

this might be unreasonable but i'd rather you actually tell me what you think, not some gay sarcasm.

[/ QUOTE ]

Post some hands in the stud forum or ask questions there. You are not going to get any good responses from these monkeys. We are usually at least somewhat helpful.

From reading Lefty's posts over the years I'd say he's talking about 3-6 and down.

From what I've seen around the net the 1-2's are a total fish tank. You can pretty much beat them with nothing more than good starting hand selection and no chasing. Do not waste your time bluffing in these games, someone is going to call you.

At 2-4 the majority of the players at least have a clue although many of them still play too loosely, especially against 3rd street raises from big door cards. Low limit is pretty straight forward. If somebody raises a king, most of the time they really do have kings. These games are still very beatable as long as you have alittle knowledge of the game and don't chase.

At 3-6 the majority of players could at least play break even in B&M 5-10 or 10-20 games. There are still fish but rarely more than 2 or 3 at a table. The aggression level on 3rd street goes up considerably too. Still beatable for an experienced player but newbies will struggle. Hand & player reading skills start to be a factor at this level.

As I said before, if you are interested in the game check out the stud forum. I don't post there but I do read it at least a couple of times a week and I think the advice is top notch.

I have watched the 1/2 and 2/4 tables in the evenings and they seem the same as 3 years ago(beatable if you can play stud well). If those games are basically the same the .5/1 must still be roulette with weighted hands........

Yeah well i consider myself a very good stud player.
Started playing stud in B&M 10 years ago. Know all the hand matchup probabilities. Calculated alot more scenarios than
appear in 7csfap.

Having said that. It is more profitable for me to play NL HE at the lower limits than 7cs at lower limits. I have had WAY too many bad beats in 7cs. I know we are supposed to prefer bad play. Having players continually chase your pocket aces with starting hands like 559 rainbow and river 2 pr to outdraw you doesn't make this too fun. Or, starting wih AAx and having player chase with AKJ rainbow and river a higher aces up to beat your aces up is brilliant.
I have had alot of variance with stud and in spite of loose players i have encountered at stud , NL HE is way more profitable for me.

Have had experience twice though with some idiots calling my stud river bet when I had jacks up showing. They had 1 pair. Maybe they hit wrong button or maybe their head was spinning and the were just clicking call.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

seriously

[/ QUOTE ]well it was off the front page with zero responses untill you decided to bump it to tell him to be quite, thus getting more responces and discusion, lmao. Anyway, to what limits are the players truely terrible? Obviously what the OP said is true of any poker game at the low limits. Are the stud games at party from 3/6 to 10/20 really bad?

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes "truely", be "quite"; no more "responces" "untill" somebody bumps it again.

My god, our public schools do suck.

Can you make a $150 a hour playing stud online?

Otherwise, not worth the effort to get good at the game.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is it lonely on your pedestal? jk.

Good point but I think the OP is referring to playing stud to switch it up. Anything close to your hourly rate at your regular game would be great if it decreases chances of burnout, plus theres a good benifit to learning a concept seldom seen in hold em. CLICHE ALERT:minute to learn, lifetime to master.CLICHE FINISHED.
