Stud\'s Gone Crazy
 

I've been playing 7-Stud lately, and can't believe how bad the players are. For example, today I had two hidden fives and three jacks showing by fifth street, and I still had callers all the way down to the river. Not only will many players call too much--regardless of what's showing on the board, but the starting hand requirements of some of these players are horrible. Well, for many, there are no requirements. They're just trying to catch something along the way. If you can handle some of the suckouts, you might want to give it a try. It's fun just trying to find out what kind of hands these people are playing with...

Not to worry Tom. The majority of people here hate stud enough to not be very good at it. Plus it's FAR more difficult to effectively multi table stud than holdem so I doubt you'll see any stampede to the stud tables no matter how correct OP's take on the games is(and it's dead on IMO).

I've said this before, but stud is a great game to see just how bad players are. At hold'em, no matter the action or the board, you can't be 100% certain that you're behind. In stud, when your opponent has a pair of aces showing on his board and you have nothing, it is a certainty. And yet so many players will call anyway with lower pairs, gutshots, three flushes, and all kinds of nonsense just hoping to get lucky. It's truly amazing (and profitable).

Anyway, to what limits are the players truely terrible? Obviously what the OP said is true of any poker game at the low limits. Are the stud games at party from 3/6 to 10/20 really bad?

I was at the Trop in Atlantic City and played some 5/10 stud for the first time. This nice elderly lady called me down to the river despite me showing a pair of aces, and then when I checked the river with a pair of aces unimproved, she quickly tossed out a couple of chips. I called, of course, and it was a complete bluff! I've really never felt more insulted.

Stud online is more like real poker and much easier to beat because you generally dont' have semi-bots playing 8 tables with their pahuds and the like.

I try to play Stud sometimes but I realllllly suck at it. I don't really understand what I should be starting with, so I'm probably way too loose there and I am undoubtedly too lose on every street after. I think it's that I can't mentally get over the one card at a time thing. I keep thinking I need to see the next two or three and I'll just have to pay the bet each round to do so.

How high does it go?
 

Can you make a $150 a hour playing stud online?

Otherwise, not worth the effort to get good at the game.

I am sure you can. 2 tabling 30/60 should net ~$150/hr.
