[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] It is really painful to watch the Cubs right now... but I guess that's what you can expect after making such stellar off-season moves as signing Jacque Jones, John Mabry , Neifi Perez & Glendon Rusch in favor of Preston Wilson, Rafeal Furcal, Nomar Garciapara & a starting pitcher [/ QUOTE ] FYP [/ QUOTE ] huh? not to defend the cubs' offseason moves, but ronny cedeno is outperforming furcal (barely) for $13mil less, and preston wilson has a negative VORP, producing easily less than jones. which of last winter's free agent starting pitchers are looking like good investments? burnett? weaver? loaiza? byrd? millwood? morris? there's a right way and a wrong way to GM: right way: sign past-peak shortstop who can't hit to start and bat leadoff, watch him develop into perennial all-star, and laugh from your perch at the top. wrong way: sign past-peak shortstop who can't hit as your backup middle infielder, and when pressed into duty, he continues to hit poorly as he has his whole career. |

[ QUOTE ] the rest are the same exact player, and the same exact player dusty has been stockpiling his whole career - fast, versatile, black players that can't get on base. Tom F. Goodwin, anyone? [/ QUOTE ] hmmm, marvin bernard, who else... [/ QUOTE ] how is jose macias not already on the list? or is he not black enough? |

I have to agree with Crockpot
I thought the Cubs off-season moves were pretty decent I think their problems stem from injuries (kind of expected some, but this has been overkill so far) and being the most impatient team at the plate that I watch on a consistent basis. Dusty's hitting philosophy that he stresses to his players = teh suck. |

It's almost like they've made some declaration that anyone that works the count gets fined. And this isn't the first year for that, it's every year. Also, they pretty much rested everything on Lee carrying the offense, and they probably expected 20-25 HRs each from Murton and Jones which isn't gonna happen. |

Anyonw who seriously compares Eckstein to Neifi Perez is off-base. Neifi's best season was worse than Eckstein's worst.

Anyonw who seriously compares Eckstein to Neifi Perez is off-base. Neifi's best season was worse than Eckstein's worst. [/ QUOTE ] you can find fault with warp3, but it is hard to argue with this discrepancy: neifi's top three warp3: 6.0, 5.9, 5.8 eckstein's warp3, season by season, before joining cardinals: 4.5, 6.3, 3.8, 3.5 i'm sure you meant to say that eckstein, before joining team voodoo, had one season as good as neifi perez at his peak. |

Jones is on pace to hit 29 and all Murton needs is a little streak to put him on pace for 20+... and there will be plenty of windy days at wrigley this summer. |

Anyonw who seriously compares Eckstein to Neifi Perez is off-base. Neifi's best season was worse than Eckstein's worst. [/ QUOTE ] especially when Eckstein was injured in 2003-04 with numerous annoying things his 2005 numbers almost mirror 2002 he's off to a better start this year he's 31 and right about the peak of his playing career probably |
